Scattered about Date:May 2015 to September 2015 Site location:Shenzheng ,Guangdong Property:Individual Work Tutor:Deng Qianxin

This site is located in an urban village next to the Chinese Academy of Art in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. This urban village is where Chinese Academy of Art students spend most of their spare time. But now this place is in urgent need of functional transformation and upgrading, and the government wants to demolish it and replace it with a small complex building. I think maybe there is a chance to keep it.

Scattered about Plug-in Garden Nowadays, with the high speed development in China, urban village become a serious issue of urban expand.Like a Tumor right beside the city core area. Both house-owner or resident are disgusted with the poor environment of the urban village. So, in this project I try to combine traditional gardening stratage and plug-in city thoought to answer this question. As a "Plug-in Garden"

Chinese painting

Jiangnan garden

Urban village

Garden spatial analysis There are ten main types in traditional jiangnan spatial patten which show how architects in ancient China to build a garden. And we can find a way which based on these diagrams to upgrade our urban village.

Order of priority

Center building

Garden was separated in sevaral parts. Each parts have an own style.

Desinger used to set a building nearly the center to arrange a axis.

In-door spatial

Duplex watch

Several rooms arranged by a patten and become a indoor array.

A room with great vision which might be a part of view for other place.

Corridor spatial

Full view

There is a corridor in tradition garden for resting and walking.

Pavilion usually put right in the view because it can provide full view.

Fluctuate skyline

One side view

With fake mountains and roofs skyline show as a wave patten

Usually there is an waterside pavilion which used as a beacon.

Dramatic space

Atrium Garden

Garden's entrance is tiny door afterthat whole garden shows up.

several rooms surround an atrium garden that provide a great view.

Existing architecture Function structure Local citizens rent their house to commerce and artist only few people stay.

1995 People structure Function structure

Businessman is the largest part in this area and local citizens only a few artist live in here.

Living area Street building

External space

In the site living area been divied into three parts there is none direct conncetion.

Self-addition In urban village there is lots of self-addition which reduce public space.

Surrounding buildings

Site

Disorder addition There is three paradigms of how the local citizens expand their house by several stages. And in each stage the addtion added part was been marked. In this process their don't have a leading principles which made the whole urban village like a chaos.

City-Village-Garden The transformation of the village in the city has always been a relatively complicated issue, but in this design, I have applied the traditional garden-building ideas of Jiangnan Gardens. Considering the original building as terrain and the road network as water, how can we arrange the building in it? In the design process of these individual building units, they are connected by verandas under the premise of ensuring that the individual functions are different. Just like in traditional gardens. At the same time, the veranda, while connecting the single building, provides a brand-new walking road for this plot, through the scaling of the corridor width. The public space that had disappeared due to unauthorized expansion was reborn above the road.

Viewing platform

A exhibition palce for those artist. It is a closing space which can help visiters to fouce on the handiworks .

This place is more like an gallary without sealing walls. Not only a exhibition space but also have several private space for artist.

By remove this two buliding's roofs I get a platform space which right inforent of the artis academy wihch provide a space to help them to creat artworks.

Residence

The mountain

The terrace

It more like a fake mountain in old-china graden.Visitors can go around the building reaching to the top and findout their is a tiny pavillion.

I arrange several platform over buildings to creat a space like terrace to drag the local recident back to past when they sitting in terrace after whole day farming.

Commercial

Bathhouse-garden

Marketplace

There was a building but now only a pit remain.rebuild a underground bathouse here like a end of the path.

By plug-in a second floor in this street.I provide enough space for commercial need in this block. And there is a brand new outdoor market space.

Sculpture exhibition

Lecture hall

There was a dilapidated building .I retain the vertical propagation and several interlace floors to transform this building into a sculpture exhibition.

Thsi bulding divide into two parts a lecture room and a pavilion right over the main street.People come here can see the whole site.

Public frontyard I try to rebuild one of the most exclusive chinese spitail types. In old-china each family have a frontyard people can eating chating even working here.

Core atrium Atrium is a essantial space in a chinese garden.I put it here over the center of this site.Come here looking up and wondering. They are within and witout.

Meditation Chamber

Duplex hu-tong

This is a completely inward architectural space, giving artists a space to think alone, not to be disturbed by each other and the outside world.

Between two recidence wo build a big stage to recreat the oldtime hu-tong live style. In this place people can spend time together and do alot of things.

Innercourt

Borrowing the path of climbing on the rockery in the garden.

The exit of a building in a garden usually sets up a resting space.

Interrupting a long path wit h a pavilion is a common method in gardening.

Bridge-like architectural elements in the garden on the ridge.

Pavilion is often used as a static space at the turning point in garden.

Enclosing a court with paths provides space and opposite scenery

Corridor space research The space form of the garden corridor will appear in the connecting part between each building module. Here are the types of corridors used in several typical gardens

Bar

Teahouse

Reside part The upper part of the building remains unchanged and does not affect normal life.

Teahouses and bars are the most common social places for residents on weekdays, and both can be well integrated with the stage. In this core area, a teahouse during the day and a bar at night are most suitable.

Bar mode

Rebuild part

Teahouse mode

As the building is at the center of the site, the first and second floors were transformed into a tiny civic center

Theater space

Two stairs

Folding doors

This is the main space of this building. The audience is not only indoors. The theater can bring the joy to the square in front of the door.

The building has two staircases. One is originally used by the residents and the outside stairs are part of the new sidewalk.

The folding door is one of the traditional Jiangnan architectural elements. The designed folding door has great spatial potential.

Village center This building retains the classic folding doors of Jiangnan. This enclosure method provides great potential for the central building to adapt to different functional needs.

The Feastival Of Insignificance Date:January 2017 to May 2017 Site:location:Shenzheng ,Guangdong Property:Individual Work Tutor:Deng Qianxin

When taking over this project, the demand was simple. This site they faced the problem of insufficient parking spaces. They wanted a duplax-parking garage. However, after completing the preliminary research, I found that there are many people sleeping here every day. At the same time, the total car growth rate in Shenzhen is slowing down but the number of foreign residents is still increasing year by year. But I think maybe there is something I can do about the future right now.

Variable Parking Based on research on parking space, living space and living space. The form of this building gradually emerged. Different from the traditional three-dimensional parking garage that puts efficiency first, this building sacrifices the number of parking spaces for the future transformation of architectural functions and the potential of space growth.

Nomadism & Nihilism In this design I try to think from the user's point of view what the building should look like. For this reason, I try to reduce my own subjective judgment, hoping to use this to expand the potential of this building when the function changes. But gradually, I found a kind of nothingness spreading in this building. I carefully examined every element that may appear in this building, and thought about whether these elements are really essential in this building. If it is not, then I will round out this building. But after rounds of reflections, I found that there was only one frame left. At this time I couldn't help thinking about what role I played when I was designing a nomadic community as an architect. Here is a very interesting scene, I am not trying to express the nihilism of the architectural design, but to tap the greater architectural potential. The most effective way to express the character of the building itself is nothingness. All I need to provide is just a place where they can stay while migrating. After the Industrial Revolution, urbanization has reached an unprecedented height. For me, it is already very difficult to understand the way of nomads and the living space they need. Especially when I was an architect. So I chose nihilism. Only in this way can we realize the maximum space potential.

23

Between Stage 1 and Stage 2 In this period migrant workers start moving in this building ,living cell appared in this place .But parking still the main funcuion

24

Architecture Floors From floor to floor there is connection, they all connected with ramps. It can used as efficient car parking building.

25

Between Stage 2 and Stage 3 The building now look like a duplex-HuTong settlement. Major population changes from migrant workers to residents.

26

View From Living Cell More and more residential units appear in this building, forming a kind of Hu-tong spatial.People communicate with each other freely.

The Circle Date:July 2016 to October 2016 Pite location:Korean De-militarized Zone Property:Individual Work Tutor:Deng Qianxin

This is itself a competition project, located on the border between North and South Korea. When this competition was conducted, there was political news on the Korean Peninsula. This makes me very pessimistic. In the face of such a political conflict, architects generally choose to create a communication space or museum. I think it might be possible to find an architectural model that combines the two.

Korean Architecture Space Type Research The research of North Korea and South Korea's public building space model under the unified body led to the prototypes of the bath space type.

In the beginning, visiter feel nature from holes on the wall.

Putting an birdge over the building.reclaim the borden.

In the center of pool, there is a stage. It is a showcase

Entrance was made into a trench to remind people of the war

The window becomes a picture frame.people can see through it.

A waterway between buildings that separates them.

Between Stage 2 and Stage 3 The building now look like a duplex-HuTong settlement. Major population changes from migrant workers to residents.

Utopia Date:October 2019 to December 2019 Pite location:Tokyo,Japan Property:Group work Tutor:Deng Qianxin

What exactly does an architect exist for? This is the question I spend the most time thinking about in this year.If architects were separated from other people in one place and lived together in the same place? In this place, the architect is immersed in society and immersed in the joy brought by the design itself. Can this league continue to exist ?

41

Utopia

Architect wonderland From thousands of years, architecture always be a minor role. In this design, I want to try to build an architect centered building, an Eden belonging to the architect. They no longer have to depend on any external conditions. To immerse in pure design.

Theocracy

Wisdom

Majesty

Religion

Geometry

Elitism

Rational

Capital

Technology We should form an architect league. All we need is a pure architecture environment.

Architect's roles This is our past, strange is it ? we show up in every chapter as a minor role,we served theocracy than turn to majesty and next ,over and over again It seems like from thousands of years we always try to find someone who have never got our own voices. And now go to the end.

42

Utopia At last, through all the things we leech on,all the effert we paid.We decide to form a league, bring all the architects together,an architecture wonderland project comes up.Finally we build up a newEden.

School of Athens II This place should be isolated and enclosure by getting away from others. It means that only architects can find their own place in this city.

It is a tiny city with all the things well equiped which architects need.we located the site on japan. Thanks to the Japanese architecture policy , social context and a large ammount of architects, which get adequate project and hunman-resourse support. They totally indulge in architecture illusion

43

It's the outermost part of the city where people live in walls, and it also provides a workspace where all the design stage takes place.

9

Cells Warehouse

All Cells are stored here, and the claws will automatically put them on the monument.

5

Material Museum

There are countless building materials in the hall. Architects can feel the physical properties of building materials directly here.

10 Monument As more and more models are smashed and recast, monuments will grow. This is also the end of the whole design process.

45

This is your first time here. This place is built for architects only.Come on let me show you The Wall first.

Pure spiritual creation, an emotional machine, ... is a wise, correct and magnificent game under the light.

This is the birthplace of architecture, from the top to the bottom is the concept design , context analysis and spatical design. At the top, of course, is where we live.

46

And than .This place called Material Museum, which contains almost all the materials.we can take something back factory automation will cast the building model according to design.

47

Judge Hall

shhhh......It's almost the end. This is the Judge Hall. All models will come here to be judged in the end to see if they are qualified to be a building in the outside world

Those which not qualified will be destroyed here and reforge into Cells

OPPS!

Postscript Now architects face the situation. We want to use architecture to come up with solutions to those problems. We kept trying, though we failed.Like this project. I want to build a utopia for architects. But in the process of design, I realized that it would only become a concentration camp for architects if the design was built.Architects will be kept in captivity like a livestock. Nowadays, as an old profession, architects are faced with various challenges. We were teared apart between the needs of partners, the recognition of the public and the critics of architecture.what should we do?
