Come learn about Central’s Maker Space and develop maker techniques to use during Open Lab times. These skills include Laser Cutting, 3D Design, 3D Printing, Vinyl Cutting (Cricut), soldering and more. Two hours of Open Lab follow each class. Registration is required and begins two weeks prior to each class. Open to teens (ages 13 to 17) and adults. Limited seating available.

AMIGURUMI CLUB

Book A Loom

During June and July, adults and children accompanied by adults may sign up to use the library’s weaving loom. All projects must be completed within one week and will be displayed in the library throughout the summer. Projects must be completed within the library as the loom must remain within the library. Children using the loom must be supervised by an adult at all times.
Macrame Coaster

Participants will be introduced to macramé crafting and find out what materials are needed, where to buy them, and what can be made out of macramé. Attendees will also learn two macramé knots and use those knots to make a coaster. Registration is required and begins two weeks prior to event.

Watercolor Workshop

Acrylic Painting For Adult Beginners

Simple Fiber Art Wall Hanging

Senior Social Hour is a recreational event for patrons ages 55 and older. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library, Senior Social Hour features entertainers, such as musicians and storytellers, on a monthly basis. Light refreshments are served. Book Donations
Take some time now to clean out your closets and bookshelves and donate the books and media that you no longer need or want. Items the library does not add to the collection are passed along to the Friends of the Library for their annual book sale. Items the library and the Friends will take include:

■ Books for all ages
■ Books in foreign languages
■ DVDs
■ CDs
Donated items may be dropped off at North Garland Branch Library, South Garland Branch Library and Walnut Creek Branch Library. Monies earned by the Friends of the Library from their book sale are used for library programming and projects. Your donations benefit the Garland libraries!
The Friends of the Nicholson Memorial Library is a community organization that supports and promotes the Library. The Friends sponsors activities to raise funds for the purchase of library materials and equipment, and underwrites programming to benefit all library users. Join the Friends today.
The Friends were pleased to be able to have the annual book sale last October. Thanks to all who volunteered and shopped. Special thanks go to board members Linda Stopani, Joan Degen and Brandon from Texas Book Consignments for their roles in the success of the sale.
The Nicholson Memorial Library System’s Friends organization announces its 2023 Fall Book Sale at the South Garland Branch Library. Shoppers may find great bargains on a wide variety of adult and children's books, fiction and nonfiction, paperback and hardcover, and reference books, as well as puzzles, DVDs, audio books, computer games and more.
The book sale will be open to Friends members only from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5. Public book sale dates are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 6 and 7.
The South Garland Branch Library is located at 4845 Broadway Blvd., at Oates Road, in Garland. Admission to the book sale is free.
Membership forms are available at all Garland library locations during open hours, and at Library.GarlandTX. gov. To locate the printable form online, click on About Us, then Friends of the Library, and finally, click on Membership Form. Those who plan to apply on the day of the annual membership meeting are encouraged to arrive 30 minutes early to allow time for the process.
