HEALTHY START
Start this year off healthy and positive. Eating healthy does not need to be a drag. There are tasty and affordable ways to keep your body and mind in great shape. Following is an easy-to-make and delicious Grilled Basil Chicken and Tomato dinner. 3/4 cup balsamic vinegar 1/4 cup tightly packed fresh basil leaves 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 garlic clove, minced 1/2 teaspoon salt 8 plum tomatoes 4 boneless skinless chicken breast halves (4 ounces each)
1. For marinade, place first five ingredients in a blender. Cut four tomatoes into quarters and add to blender; cover and process until blended. Halve remaining tomatoes for grilling. 2. In a bowl, combine chicken and 2/3 cup marinade; refrigerate, covered, 1 hour, turning occasionally. Reserve remaining marinade for serving. 3. Place chicken on an oiled grill rack over medium heat; discard marinade remaining in bowl. Grill chicken, covered, until a thermometer reads 165°, 4-6 minutes per side. Grill tomatoes, covered, over medium heat until lightly browned, 2-4 minutes per side. Serve chicken and tomatoes with reserved marinade.

Stand up, holding the back of the chair for balance, and raise your left leg out to the side. Lower your left leg, then repeat with your right leg.
Sit up straight in your chair and tilt your upper body as far as you can to the left, return to center, then repeat the exercise on your right.
Raise your left foot to straighten your leg, tightening the muscle in your thigh. Hold for 10-30 seconds, then lower. Repeat with your right leg.
Arch your back and push your hands away from you. Hold for 1-3 seconds, then release your hands and relax your back. Repeat.

The Garland Senior Activity Center and the Carver Center are recreation centers for adults 55 and older, offering an extensive variety of activities and classes intended to enhance and enrich the lives of active adults in our community. The centers are not a licensed adult day care facility. All paid and drop-in activities are designed for independent participation. Staff does not provide direct supervision or personal care and does not monitor participants coming and going. Participants requiring assistance need to be accompanied with a caregiver or assistant while at the center.
It is the policy of the Senior Services Section of the Garland Parks & Recreation Department to serve all persons with regard to employment, programs, services and/or admissions without discrimination as to race, creed, color, sex, ancestry, national origin, religion or disability.
