CONVERGING NETWORKS AUSTIN TRANSIT HUB
The Aus n Transit Hub (ATH) is an engaging and inviting mixed-use urban center in downtown Aus n, Texas. Celebra ng its prominent loca on on 4th street and I-35, a prime loca on with two proper es on both sides of the historic Waller Creek, the building’s design formally and philosophically extends over the creek encapsulating both the presence of the creek and visitors, welcoming people of all ages and backgrounds to experience the fluidity of converging networks. The design concept is conceived of as a network of par cles with thresholds of volumetric rela onships. The dynamic contiguous surface of the building captures the spatial volumes while guiding the public to key areas, wrapping event, gathering, and oďŹƒce spaces, and leading on to the plaza and creek below. Addi onally, the exterior overhangs express the transit wai ng areas, plaza and bridge connec on, establishing a dialogue with the street and landscape as well as a heightened juxtaposi on with the undula ng surfaces of I-35. The overall curvilinear formal language defines an inviting rhythm of movement and a unique place-making experience for visitors.

MISSIONAL COMMUNITY TRAPPIST MONASTERY & BREWERY
The primary objective of this project was to develop a prototype live/work community that supports sustainable living pa erns. Part site-built, part prefabricated, this proposal inves gates the poten al of bringing Trappist monks to Aus n, TX. Inspired by the Monastery of Christ in the Desert, located 75 miles north of Santa Fe, NM. and the only monas c brewery in North America, this project has the poten al to become a catalyst for new types of communi es wishing to relocate in a city filled with various crea ve industries. The site, located on the east side of Aus n in a fairly isolated neighborhood, is in close proximity to downtown with a rela vely low property value. As a result, this monas c community can maintain their strict lifestyle of worship, work, and modest living. The program of the Trappist community includes: monk cells, refectory, communal indoor/outdoor spaces, chapel, guest rooms, food gardens, rainwater harves ng cisterns, parking, brewery, tas ng room, and gi shop.
Rule of St. Benedict: “For then they are monks in truth, if they LIVE by the WORK of their hands.

STITCHED PAVILION EXTREME CLIMATE SHELTER
This project was conceived using itera ve processes of analog and digital procedures. By first crea ng a rule system diagram - a process-design tool that provides a method/template for genera ng new organiza onal pa erns - the project emerged through an evolu onary design process. The final diagrams selected for model-making contained several overlapping ordering systems, genera ng complexity through intersec ons, layering and superimposi on. The process of the ini al procedures is defined as: Diagram, Outline, Define Frame, Subdivide, Boolean Union, Transform, Highlight, Overlay. The next procedures involved the intuitive interpreta on of the diagrams as a set of instruc ons and step-by-step process for building models. Cu ng out the diagram and “stitching the perimeter together allowed me to assign physical a ributes to the model, such as volume, surface, and create rela onships based on color to the 2D informa on in the diagram. A er crea ng 4 models based on 4 rule-system-diagrams, I explored how the forms could be combined, overlapped, and aggregated. Ul mately I chose two forms that provided adequate spacial qualities for habitation, 3D scanned the models, and re-interpreted their final forms, openings, and scale using Rhino. The process of the final procedure is defined as: S tch, Redefine Folds, Discover Openings/ Voids, Scan, Aggregate, Redefine Scale for Habita on.

CIVIC IDENTITY JONESTOWN, TX. CIVIC CENTER
This project is a 30,000sf municipal project that includes city offices, public plazas, a library, community center, public dance hall, and a private bou que hotel. The project takes advantage of its’ location and scenic vistas by the distribution of programma c elements of exterior public spaces (plazas) and volumetric interior spaces (buildings). The concept of layering interior and exterior spaces creates a varied sequence throughout the project. The main plaza, or center of the project, contains an open network of paths, views, and uses organized around it. The hill country landscape generated the concepts for the formal geometry and material expression of the project. The main building consists of a series of alterna ng low-slope roof profiles that are derived from the interpreta on of the surrounding hills. The project also takes advantage of a specific building material, grey Indiana Limestone, to achieve a larger visual effect of a monolithic presence. The final formal expressions of the project are the two building can levers. These spa al protrusions express the building’s site orienta on according to two prominent views and setup a moment in which a relationship between an observer and the hill country is established.

CONFLUENCE OF GEOMETRY ITC FOUNTAIN RENOVATION
The project objective for this courtyard, located at the Ins tute of Texan Cultures in San Antonio, TX., was to find a solu on for the exis ng damaged water fountain and make the surrounding areas of the courtyard accessible to the public. The concept was to create a sculptural ribbon, infill the water feature with a translucent glass floor, and provide an amphitheater and stage for events. The 17 center stones of the fountain served as the founda onal geometry for the sculpture as well as provided the regula ng lines for the site layout.

THE FIVE MIXED USE HIGH-RISE
This is a proposal for a 25 story mixed-use highrise located in downtown San Antonio, Texas. The objec ve was to research the urban context and explore the feasibility of a mixed use high-rise. The program includes: childcare, gym, restaurant, grocery store, and an observa on/flex space on the 25th floor. The sustainable strategy design components are: operable mesh screens; weather resilient ipe wood decks; large overhangs for sun shade; low albedo color pallets; and a site location that an encourages alternate means of transporta on due to the hubs of the VIA transporta on system. The parking strategy incorporates a parking garage within the limits of the site. The proposed parking spaces have a reserved number strictly for those vehicles that are either high GPM vehicles or compact in size. Addi onally, the residents will have access to a Wohr parking system. This system will allow for greater u liza on of parking spaces by pushing the system underground. This mechanically operated parking system will offer residents a safe and efficient storage of their vehicles.

MARFA ARTPACE MUSEUM + ARTIST RESIDENCE + STUDIO
The project objec ve was to study minimalism with respect to Donald Judd and his art installations in Marfa, Texas and then to design a mixed use facility, that includes an art gallery, apartments for the ar sts, and art studios. The design of the project was based o of the concept of sequen al experiences as an occupant moves through space. The concept model below represents this idea by the rela onship that one object has next to another. A primary considera on of the project is that it is an urban infill with a predominant loca on on the corner of a busy pedestrian street.

The team took root when I started volunteering at the Methodist Mission Home (MMH) and witnessed firsthand the authen city and influence propelling the ministry. This in turn inspired me to consider the possibility of fusing my faith with my passion for design on the MMH campus. Not long after, Benjamin Rosas, Daiki Tsutsumi, and Aldo Vega eagerly commi ed to the proposal of a design/build project, and thus, Volunteer Ini a ve was set into mo on. We united around the idea of a pavilion and pa o renovations at the MMH’s Southwest Center of Higher Independence (SCHI), a facility commi ed to offering young adults with disabili es a transi onal educa on to prepare them for independent living. The structure’s shape is intended to mirror God’s hands as the young adults with disabili es literally “rest in the shadow of the Almighty” (Psalm 91:1). Ul mately, we hope the pavilion and pa o renovations will provide a welcoming gathering area that provides inspira on, serenity, and solace for anyone who visits as well as invite meaningful community-building opportuni es for everyone at the MMH. Through individual and corporate donors, and volunteers around Texas, the vision was realized in July 2012. Refuge • Edifica on • Strength • Tranquility
