Cultural Undertones April 12th 2011 On the occasion of the 2011 Milan Design Week, Mabeo will present its newest items in their continually growing collection. To build upon its previous successful showing at this high profile event Mabeo has again selected to showcase their product at Zona Tortona's SuperStudio Piu as part of the “Temporary Museum for New Design”. The line-up of new products will include the Seriti chair by Patricia Urquiola, Pula low tables from Luca Nichetto, Thusi clothing valets by Studio Noi and Meradi storage series from Garth Roberts. The highlights of this new collection feature a variety of approaches which interpret Mabeo’s unique esthetic. Woven fibers are used to create a sensually textured surface for Patricia Uquiola's Seriti seating, while subtle embossings are used as accents in the contrasting projects of Luca Nichetto Pula tables and the delicately nimble Thusi clothing racks of Studio Noi. The Meradi storage units designed by Garth Roberts uses hand painted graphic and disguised functionality to add uniqueness to a basic furniture typology. Mabeo is a furniture brand based in Botswana, Africa, which uses good design, high levels of craftsmanship, carefully selected sustainable raw materials and people development as key building blocks. Mabeo’s product is derived from creative collaborations with a growing list of select international designers including well known names like Patricia Urquiola and Claesson Koivisto Rune, as well as design veterans and emerging designers such as Patty Johnson, Luca Nichetto, Studio Noi and garth. The Mabeo brand is making a name for itself in the upper segment of the international furniture design and have been featured in prestigious design magazines and online publications from around the world. Apart from their appearance in Milan’s Design Week Mabeo has also exhibited at the 100% design in London, Stockholm’s Design Week and has been a regular exhibitor at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York City, where they have been honored with the Editors Choice Award for ‘Best Craftsmanship’, both in 2006 and 2008, and most recently the Editors Choice Award for ‘Best Furniture’ in 2010. In response to recent achievements Mabeo is now broadening it's focus in order to make their products even more accessible to the world of design.
