Another letter from Roan Auctions attests tha this rifle was from the estate of John Woods Rich of Woolrich, PA, and that he was the original owner.

Engraved on the right side of the grip is "H.D.W.," which, according to tradition, stands for Henry D. Wallen (18191886). Wallen graduated from West Point in 1840 and served in Florida and the West, including during the Mexican War, and served in the 7th US Infantry during the Civil War, during which time he was brevetted lieutenant-colonel, then colonel, and finally, brigadier-general. Though he spent some time in the East following the War, he returned west, and was part of the 1872 Yellowstone Expedition. $1,000-$2,000
SHARPS CONVERSION CARBINE. New Model 1863 or 1865 (top barrel marking worn), .52 cal., 21" round barrel, no patchbox, walnut stock with two cartouches. S/n 74433. One of the cartouches is "DFC" indicating that this was a government contract conversion to use breechloading metallic cartridges, done following the Civil War. $1,000-$2,000

FINE MOORE'S PATENT BELT REVOLVER. .32 cal., 5" octagonal barrel, blued barrel and 7-shot cylinder, gilt brass frame, and ivory grips.
According to an old tag that accompanies this gun, it was was sold by a Mary Kincaid in 1968 and was, according to family tradition, carried by her great grandfather, a captain in the 1st North Carolina Cavalry. $800-$1,200
The elaborate engraved decoration, which includes dogs and two shooting scenes, makes this an exceptional example of the Moore's Patent revolver. $1,500-$2,500

PRESENTATION CIVIL WAR SWORD. American, mid 19th century. High grade sword with etched blade with name of recipient and makers "E.W. Simons & Bro. Philadelphia, Pa". Fire gilt brass guard and scabbard fittings. The guard has "US", a Minerva head and eagle head fit with red stones (possibly garnets) for eyes. On the scabbard is "Presented to A.H. Brown 1st Lieut. of Co. F, 178th Penna. Regt. by the Members of the Co. As a Token of Regard". Tooled, blued steel grip wrapped with wire and applied initial monogram. The darkened steel scabbard has additional applications of a shield and American eagle with flags. Minor wear to scabbard, 40 1/2"l. overall. Abner H. Brown was Lieutenant of the 178th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment 1862-1863. Muster record copies and a CDV of Lt. Brown included. $3,000-$5,000

DOUBLE-BARREL FLINTLOCK PISTOL. Wattell Clark, Holborn, London, ca. 1800. .54 cal., two 4 1/2" round barrels, engraved trigger guard with inlaid pineapple, checkered walnut stock. $1,000-$2,000
The frame is engraved "John H. Kearsing Albany, N.Y." on the right and "43rd Regt. N.Y.S.V." on the left. Kearsing (1836/7-1906) enlisted in Company G of the 43rd New York in the fall of 1862, following the regiment's losses at Antietam. The 43rd fought at Gettysburg and a number of other en-
gagements in late 1863. In 1864, they participated in the Wilderness campaign, where they suffered grievous losses, including the capture of Pvt. Kearsing. He spent the remainder of the war imprisoned at Andersonville, Georgia. NARA copies of his war record accompany this lot.

No. 1 Pocket Model, .31 cal., 3 1/2" octagonal barrel, brass frame, walnut grips. $1,500-$2,500 ID'D WHITNEY NAVY 2ND MODEL REVOLVER. 2nd Type, .36 cal., 6 3/4" eagle-engraved octagonal barrel, 6-shot cylinder, walnut grips. S/n 12509 (matching). Inset in the grips is a German silver plaque engraved "H.M. Nevius." Henry Martin Nevius (1841-1911) enlisted in Company K of the 1st New York Cavalry in 1861, and the following year received a commission in Company D of the 7th Michigan Calvary, thus serving in the Michigan Brigade under George Armstrong Custer. $1,500-$2,500
