Gary Fixter - Eccentric Overload In this article we are going to explain what is eccentric overload in soccer and the benefits of this type of work. Soccer is an intermittent collective sport in which high intensity actions are combined with great physical demands with low intensity situations such as jogging or even walking.

Therefore, during a soccer match, the predominance of energy routes will vary throughout it. In the following graph they divided the efforts of the soccer players between activities of high intensity and low intensity Soccer is one of the most practiced sports at both professional and amateur levels. This fact causes numerous studies to be carried out to scientifically develop different training techniques that improve the physical qualities of the players. Many of these studies have shown the importance of strength training. The problem is that in many of these studies they focused mainly on concentric strength. In recent years, studies have been directed towards eccentric strength work, mainly with eccentric overload work in soccer, since it has been scientifically proven to have a large number of benefits. What is eccentric overload?

As Francisco Seirulo defined in his book “Training in Team Sports, eccentric overload in soccer occurs when the peak force is higher during the eccentric phase than in the concentric phase. This type of training can be achieved through a series of machines with a power steering wheel such as yo-yo machines, versapulley, etc. In addition, thanks to this type of machine we can work by performing analytical or specific movements of a specific sport.
