Do you need a detox diet? You do not need special juices, powders, products, pills, potions, gimmicks, diets or gadgets. They’re popular, but they aren’t proven to do as claimed: flush toxins out of your system. In fact, they may be risky and even backfire. The idea that your body needs help getting rid of toxins has “no basis in human biology.” Your organs and immune system handle those duties, no matter what you eat. This from WebMD.com in The Truth About Detox Diets You might actually lose weight because they are generally very low in calories. It depends on the particular detox diet you’re following. There are many. Some involve fasting, or just drinking liquids. Others allow some foods, like fruits and vegetables. They typically are short diets — not a way of eating you can stick with in the long run. You’ll be hungry and feeling weak. Whether or not a cleanse diet is safe depends on the plan and how long you stay on it. You will probably feel bad if it’s a low calorie, nutrient poor diet. That is likely from the toxins getting into your blood stream. From The Mayo Clinic: Do detox diets offer any health benefits? Answers from Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., L.D. Detox, or detoxification, diets are popular, but they’re not scientifically proven. Detox diets are touted as a way to remove toxins from the body. Specific detox diets vary — but typically a period of fasting is followed by a strict diet of raw vegetables, fruit and fruit juices, and water. In addition, some detox diets advocate using herbs and other supplements along with colon cleansing (enemas) to empty the intestines. Long-term fasting can result in vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Colon cleansing, which is often recommended as part of a detox plan, can cause cramping, bloating, nausea and vomiting. Dehydration also can be a concern. Finally, keep in mind that fad diets aren’t a good long-term solution. For lasting results, your best bet is to eat a healthy diet based on fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean sources of protein. This basically mirrors the other posted. No Diet is Detoxing

Jeff Novick, MS, RDN, LDN posts this Guardian article: You can’t detox your body. It’s a myth. So how do you get healthy? You do not need special juices, powders, products, pills, potions, gimmicks, diets or gadgets. “There are two types of cleansing: one is respectable and the other isn’t.” The respectable one, he says, is the medical treatment of people with life-threatening drug addictions. “The other is the word being hijacked by entrepreneurs, quacks and charlatans to sell a bogus treatment that allegedly detoxifies your body of toxins you’re supposed to have accumulated.” ~ Edzard Ernst, emeritus professor of complementary medicine at Exeter University Below text is taken from Mr. Novick’s comments in facebook under his post of the above article. When living healthy, one does not need these powders, diets and such and they should know they are doing the best they can. However, often people use it because they think they are making up for their indulgences, which only perpetuates their indulgences. The points about detox were excellent and should be shared and taken to heart. Hopefully, we can appreciate those even though we may not agree on everything 100%. Any healthy diet that is nutritional adequate, which is not hard to do at all, helps supports all the systems of the body and is not, a detox diet but a health supporting diet. Selling a diet as a detox diet is just as misleading as selling a potion of supplement as such.

The body is a self healing mechanism and fasting only allows the body a period of rest to do what it does best. There is nothing special in the juices that cause you to “detox.” Imagine that, doing nothing at all, actually works the best.

When one goes on any healthy diet, and stops drinking milk, they eliminate the intake of the toxic chemicals in milk, which, the body itself will then eliminate and one of the paths it chooses is through the milk, along with other ways. This will happen on any healthy diet that eliminates dairy and not a function of a raw vegan diet. You drink alcohol, your body will eliminate it over the next few hours and days. No special diet needed, just that stopping the ingestion of alcohol will help. The fundamental principles have not changed. As in all things, it pays to get an understanding of these fundamental and basic principles involved before one can start putting everything in perspective and understanding it better. A quick google search on detox will net millions of results for diets, powders, smoothies, progrms and everything imaginable, including the above articles. Conclusion

This concept took a while to seep in to my brain. And This is not the first time Mr. Novick has offered a concept that shook up an old belief. I can see that he is correct. I don’t need any detox gimmick to rid myself of toxins‌whether from food, environment, water or even medicines. Yes, Medicines! Some years ago, I was given some prescription for something that made me feel like CRAP while my job at the time was delivering pizzas for Pizza Hut. The same day I stopped taking them, only after three days, I immediately started feeling better. A few years later I attempted some fasting, which netted me that very same horrid feeling. I realized it was the toxic medicine breaking loose and getting into my blood stream that caused this. Now I consume a healthy diet that allows my body to detox itself. It feels amazing not having a lot of sludge coursing through my arteries and veins.
