IGF-1 GWilkerson11/20/2014 Disease Insulin-Iike Growth Hormone-1 Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the IGF-1 gene. When we consume animal protein, the body increases its production of a hormone called IGF-1 (insulin-like growth factor 1). IGF-1 is one of the body’s important growth promoters during fetal and childhood growth, and later in life IGF-1 promotes the aging process. Animal Protein, IGF-1 and Colon Cancer An article by Dr. Joel Furhman where he explains it extensively.

Cooking any meat at high temperatures forms carcinogenic compounds such as heterocyclic amines, which contribute to cancer risk. Animal foods such as non-fat dairy products, egg whites, and fish are considered healthful by most people. They are not. How can we keep IGF-1 in a safe range? These studies were conducted at Channing Laboratory in Boston, a joint facility of Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, and at the Harvard School of Public Health. I see no real reason for getting this test when we can easily just avoid the foods that cause higher IGF-1 levels. It is related to GH deficiencies. Apparently there is A rare disorder where the deficiency of a growth factor (IGF-1) causes growth delay, deafness and mental retardation. Dr. John McDougall talks of IGF-1 in this interesting YouTube video from VegSource: Conclusion

IGF-1 is a growth hormone whose levels increase as we eat more animal products such as meats, dairy and eggs. It is a known cause of cancer promotion as has been known for decades. My suggestion to help avoid it is to eschew all animal products, isolated soy protein and consume
