Milk: Isn’t it healthy? GWilkerson10/30/2014 Plant Based Nutrition
Milk builds strong, healthy bones! We have been bombarded with this for our entire lives from all sides; parents, schools, TV, radio, Doctors, peers… In late 1977 while in the US Navy a Dr. told some of us of the evils of milk, cheese and other dairy products. He was lecturing us that we need to lose weight. I weighed around 205 lbs or so. I was working at the mess hall at the Naval Training Center, San Diego. Lose weight? While working there?? All our meals were at no charge…I didn’t resist. This Dr. told the few of us there for weight issues of casein being the same stuff that buttons are made of, that ice cream is just a condensed, sweetened, frozen milk product; that cheese is a super-condensed this product with all of the same unhealthy components of it, only much more so. He also told us that milk is really a solid food in liquid form. It should be chewed, masticated, not just drank down. I was not dropping much weight. Then in early 1978 I was transferred to the Naval Station to board a destroyer for my last ten months in the navy. No further mention of anybody’s weight. I stopped drinking dairy for the most part.
milk pus antibiotics And that was 36 years ago!
These days milk has far longer ingredient list: milk, Vitamin A, synthetic vitamin D, growth hormones, herbicides and/or pesticides, produced in a facility that uses antibiotics, genetically modified soy and/or corn, pus. FoodBabe writes an interesting blog post titled: After You Read This You’ll Never Look At Milk The Same Way Again! Please watch this video by Dr. John McDougall McDougall’s Moments: Milk… it does the body harm
Dr. Neal Barnard posts in his latest blog: According to the study:Women who consume three or more glasses of milk per day have a 60 percent increased risk of developing a hip fracture and a 93 percent increased risk of death. And each glass of milk increases mortality risk by 15 percent. Read the full article in More Milk, More Problems I could include some graphic dairy cruelty videos here….but you get the idea. More and more I find that that Navy Doctor was ahead of his time. He really knew what he was talking about. I believe that he would be in trouble for saying such facts in this decade. At the Dallas VA in early 2005, a dietician confided that she was vegetarian but was not allowed to suggest that veterans go vegetarian. She had me consume dairy products to replace the lost protein from not eating meat there. That is so sad. In 2011 I heard that the VA Dr. I had been seeing was vegetarian as well. When confronted, he said: “I don’t talk about that anymore…too many ‘looks’ ..too many comments.” I can’t live without my cheese and ice cream!
If you think you can’t live without cheese or ice cream; milk or yogurt; or even a glass of cold cow secretions, think again. I have had none of these in over three years. I find alternative milks are quite delicious without all the ill side effects. There are thousands of recipes online and in books for whole food, plant-based non dairy dishes that truly rival ANY dairy dish. Or just freeze some bananas and blend them with your favorite frozen berries or fruits in a high powered blender with some flavoring. ENJOY!
