I have written about film music for many years in a semi-professional capacity. From 1991 to 1996 I edited and primarily wrote Legend, the magazine of the Jerry Goldsmith Film Music Society. It had been started as an A5 newsletter by the Society's founders, produced on a typewriter and averaging 12 pages, twice a year. By the end of my tenure it was A4, averaged 72 pages, and was produced four times a year and distributed in 23 countries. While the low budget meant the primary print method was photocopying, occasionally landmark issues featured colour. Goldsmith himself was very supportive of my efforts, and gave me access to his recording sessions whenever they were scheduled for London orchestras. I also wrote for other specialist magazines, such as Music for the Movies, Soundtrack, From Silents to Satellites and others, as well as for mainstream magazines such as Total Film, SFX and Empire.
