Project Information

This assignment is to design a small steel resting hut and as a knowledge exchange outpost for visitors to the hill at Lung Fushan. For this steel resting hut, the visitors can learn about the species that live in the Lung Fu Shan, like butterflies, birds, plants etc.

The site is located at the peak of Lung Fu Shan. The site is an open area and is a hidden area covered by trees. During the visitors walk through the Peak of Lung Fu Shan, they can find the secret path to get in this site. “Mutualism is the way two organisms of different species exist in a relationship in which each benefits from the activity of the other.” Posted by Wiki How can we represent the idea of ‘Mutualism’? ‘Green Wall’,’Green Feature’,Green Roof’, are common feature to represent the sustainable design.But it is an good exmaple to represent the idea of ‘ Mutualism’?

Nowadays, green features always promote to our architectural design for eco-friendly or sustainable design. Green Feature provides the vegetation plants’ area on the exterior building wall or interior wall or roof to improve air quality, dampen noise pollution, and interior temperate regulating. Therefore, building and vegetations’ relationship seems to work as the idea of “Mutualism”. we planned area for plants growin g , a n d th e p l a n t s p r o v i d e “ s e r v i c e s ” f o r u s . B u t t h i s c a s e i s t o r e p r e s e n t i n t h e c i t y. H o w a bout a return to nature? N

Therefore, the concept intention is to represent the idea of “Mutualism” between steel structure and nature. The steel structure works like a frame for the plants growing and protects to prevent damage by wind. However, many biological spe cies live in Lung Fu Shan, like a butterfly, birds, frogs. Due to many plants will grow on this site, to invite the butterfly or birds.


PROJECT 1 NATURAL SHELTER,LUNG FU SHAN

SITE ANAYALSIS LUNG FU SHAN is located in the central and western districts of Hong Kong. It covers the densely vegetated slopes of Lung Fu Shan, including the disused Pinewood Battery as well as the pinewood garden picnic area, providing a scenic backdrop to the residential and commercial districts of Hong Kong Island. Also, Lung Fu Shan is not too high f r o m t h e Pe a k (2 6 4 m m) t o P i n e w o o d B at te r y(310 m m), i t s u i t a b l e fo r fa m i l y hiking on weekends. However, the running competition always occurs on that. The starting point of Lung Fu Shan is started from HKU and end of Pinewood Battery or you can keep going to Vitoria Peak Garden.

HISTROY

In the early 1800s, it became a barren island full of builders, grass, and screen without a single tree.

PLANT SPECIES

After the Second World War, the British Colonial Government put a great deal of effort into reforesting the hills to provide a scenic backdrop for Hong kong Island.

Although the Fast-growing will help to accelerate the reforesting, monotonous plantations of exotic species do not provide suitable food and environment for native fauna. In this regard, the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Conservation Department are carrying out the Plantation Enhancement Scheme to improve the ecology by increasing the number and diversity of native species.

CONCEPT "Mutualism is the way two organisms of different species exist in a relationship in which each benefits from the activity of the other." Posted by Wiki Nowadays, green features always promote to our architectural design for eco-friendly or sustainable design. Green Feature provides the vegetation plants' area on the exterior building wall or interior wall or roof to improve air quality, dampen noise p o l l u t i o n , a n d i n te r i o r te m p e r a te regulating. Therefore, building and vegetations' relationship seems to work as the idea of "Mutualism". we planned area for plants growing, and the plants provide "services" for us. But this case is to represent in the city. How about the return to nature? Therefore, the steel structure intends to work as a frame for the plants growing and provide the protection to prevent damage by wind. The Site is located the place under on the Peak pavilion of Lung Fu Shan. There is an open area which is challenging to stay in due to the wind problem. Therefore, I would like to rebuild a shelter for that to provide a place for better growth.

The reason why using the structure of " tensegrity" is due to the site constraigt.The site is hide of the peak of Lung Fu Shan and only have one walk way to go throught,so that the crane or any other heavy duty machine cannot arrived.

As the design intention is to to represent the idea of “Mutualism” between steel structure and nature and build a big Shelter to recover the site area,and provide a better place for any species to live in.During the people hiking , they can come to take rest and enjoy the bird and butterflies watching .

Location:

Hong Kong descried as Horizontal City, heavy human and traffic path, narrow road. Therefore, the government planned to separate two zoning to improve the crowded footpaths by Pedestrian foot bridge system. The most popular system work on Tsuen Wan, the whole district linked by the footbridge, start from MTR station and separate to every place. In our site, Mong Kok where the heavy traffic and dense human flow always happened on here. As we talk about the Footbridge system prepared by government, the government was staring introduce the system to this district, like Langham Place with Mong kok Complex,Tung Choi Street with Sai Yeung Choi Street South , also nearly our site with Hermitage. However , the Highway Department was proposed the additional system to connect with our site. Therefore, the pedestrian bridge system will be the main circulation for future use, In this project, the museum will be worked as showcase to redefine pedestrian footbridge in the future. During the pedestrian footbridge work as one layer in the present, the rule will be changed. The building will build much higher as a skyscraper, that the pedestrian bridge will not satisfy the one layer and work as multi-layer.


PROJECT 2 FUTURE MUSEUM,MONG KOK

SITE ANAYLSIS The site is located between Ferry street and Shamchun Street and connected with the pedestrian bridge. The pedestrian footbridge connects the Circulation around the site. The visitor can visit from the Olympic Station and walk through Hermitage Tower to go to the site. Also, the site connected to Shamchun Street, Palm Street, and the Mong Kok Market. Temporary Market is one Hong Kong Market-style which can be found on Mong Kok, and which nearly our site are Shamchun street market, Canton Road Street market. Most of the Residents who are living nearby will arrive there to buy their needs. H o w e v e r, M o n g K o k i s a m u c h - c o m p r e s s e d c i t y b y b u i l d i n g and traffic. There are Elevated Road and Argyle Street, which produce a noise problem due to heavy traffic. Also, the temporary Market will produce too in the daytime.

For the vision of future,Hong Kong's buildings will built much higher,the connection between two places is only happened on the ground level or underground.In the future,we may walk on the sky. The world famous museum,Guggenheim Museum was designed by Frank Llyod Wright.His rule is played in one path for visitor's journey.However,future has many possibilities which affected different movement,but the foundation is work on Present.In this museum,the staring point can be arrived in each tube by time,that means the visitor can have different experience during different visiting time. As Museum is the storage of Past'.Furthermore,here is explore the existing footpath happend on the ground level or footbriage level.

SITE

According to official data, more than 790 million people lived in urban areas last year, about 57.3 per cent of the population. But only 41.2 per cent of the population have permanent urban residential permits, a precondition for access to social welfare in cities. Urban Villages are a specific phenomenon raised in modern China due to the high-speed economic development and urbanization in recent three decades. And there are social,economic, cultural and architectural transformations happened in these villages during these years. Without proper planning in past, Wenjia Wei district are heavily populated, overdeveloped, and lack of basic infrastructure. The building density is high, they are composed of overcrowded multi-story buildings from three to six floors, with narrow alleys, which are difficult for vehicles to pass through Inside these villages, it is dark and damp year round and the lights have to be kept on during daytime. Also, the illegal structure of the buildings makes the district even denser and more dangerous, lack of public space for recreations and gathering. In the past it provided affordable housing for the newcomers to the city, however, as the industry decline, up to 30% village’s flats are vacant. Therefore, our urban strategy has two intention, the first one is bringing the new programmes to attract young new comers, at the same time, connecting with the villagers and the immigrant workers in Dongguan. The second one is improving the living environment In the village by reclaiming The public space of people. For the first one, we suggest to establish an Lncubation centre, pairing up the “old” immigrant workers and the “new” young designers.As many of immigrant workers lost their job The new start-up studio or design such as fashion, electronics, furnitures, may ride on the skills and knowledge of the workers. The centre will provide them a space to work together, and also different lodging types and facilities. The centre also will become one of the focus of the villages, and will provide community facilities for the villages. Moreover, a new main road will bring in to enhance the circulation,a bridge system will be a secondary circulation system to blend in the new program in the existing village, some vacant house along the bridge will be renovated into new studio and shop, some of them will be demolished to free up some open space for the community.

Base on the site analysis, we find some pocket space generated by unorganized city planning, like the idea of Collage city ,Colin Rowe. Beside the well planning ,some space will formed by the city themselves. These spaces become playground, courtyard Horizontal city ? Vertical City? Can we combine them as future urban planning for the china? The cross become the main road for the public, and the housing unit attached to the cross. However, each type of housing unit can have their own community..


PROJECT 4

SKY VILLAGE

CONCEPT During the scheme s design was proposed office on the ground to the fourth floor. And with a cube from and the housing building on top. After the discussion with the tutor and the guest, the office will have located at the factory. And the ground will become a temporary exhibition space and the main lobby with an amount of hexagon. And link up to 3/F of the factory, service as can restaurant. However, the cross-system is also connected to the factory's roof, which becomes their semi-private open space. They can have a private outside cinema, temporary concert, or a quick fashion show. The middle zone will become their shared space, like the workshop, studio, retail (for the dairy product), playground…. that serves as a shared social environment of social housing. Each zone of unit type, they will have their own cluster. Type 1 (couple) need privacy to have less common space to communicate because they may not always stay at home. Type 2 (Family) needs more common area for the patients to help each other take care of them. Also, children can have more room for their little playground. Type 3 & 4 service as share unit, most of them will be the youngers. Therefore, they need more shared space to communicate with others, which can get more information or ideas to inspire their design.

-In the noraml case , our city planning most plan with horizontal way.but much land become less during the rapidly city growth.

However, the city is too density like Hong Kong,New York..., they try to develop the vertical way to release the usage of ground.Like the podium ,Footbridge to connect with whole city. But that will miss the "Pocket space" form by the unorganise planning.

How about combie horizontal and vertical way.Like " Cross" to develop the village.The cross is the main street with daily facility ,also some space can form public facilities,like playground,countyard,..

The cross-system (which is Highline with red line) is the main structure for this building. Also, the tree structure located at the ground to support the cross-system. The cross-system with the truss structure and steel frame to self-support. However, the cross will have attached to the central core. The units will have connected to the cross-system with modular.

UNIT TYPE In the unit type, there are four types of unit which are combined with hexagon. Also, the central entrance hexagon is the living room and kitchen. Type 1 is service for the couple, which have two modular of hexagon. One is for the living room, kitchen, and the other is the m a s t e r b e d r o o m w i t h l a v a t o r y. Type 2 is service for the family, which have three modular of hexagon. The master bedroom and child bedroom combine as two hexagons. The child will also be smaller to provide double volume space so that the parent can easily take care of the child. Ty p e 3 & 4 a r e s i m i l a r p r o p o s e which is service for 4-8share units. The special type 4 is combined with two types 3 and provides a long common corridor as the courtyard to easily commutate with each other.

In densely-populated Kowloon,Kwong Wah Hosiptal(KWH) is one of Hong kOng oldest and busiest hospitals.As demand for pateient services is increasing,the Hospital Authority decided that a new development was required to replace overstretched infrastructure.To minimize effect existing clinic service,the construction will divided into two phase. Material Mood Board Material Board The new KWH will mark a new era of oldest hopital,which deliver an image of modern and contemporary institute.The desing will respect human scale,be eco-friendly and cheerful.Using natural materials(e.g. recyclewood,terracotta,natural stone) and application of vertical green provide warm and welcoming streetscape.

The Complex is the first data centre complex proposed to house the govenment infomration technology services soley for the governmental deaprtments.Within the small foot print of site(site area 1,488m2),1450number of data racks and 3 storeys of command centre and offices are required to accommodated.To support the secure and robust service in the complex,series of critical building services infrastrcuture components are also equipped.

Post-modern art and “Ho Tan” landscape concept have been introduced to the desing of Chun Yeung Estate to complement the surrounding environment.For the general information,Chun Yeung Estate is situated at 28 Wong Chuk Street,comprising 5 domesitic blocks ranging from 34 to 39 storeys and shopping centre.The project will provide 4,846 flats for about 12,913 residents;and educational and social welfare facilities are provided.

Responsibilities: -Preparing and checking working drawings,submission drwaings,presentation drawings,survey plans and schedules -Check shopdrawings and as-fitted drawings submitted by contractor,supplier and utility companies. -Co-ordinate,architectural,building services,structural,site formation,draniage,geotechincal and other drawings as necessary
