HPDI. The clean, lean burn. All the way to 300hp. Yamaha's High Pressure Direct Injection (HPDI) system is a quantum leap ahead of conventional injection technologies. Out there on the water, HPDI makes its presence felt in the form of dynamic, instantaneous power; smooth and effortless output right through the engine's power range; and an efficient, clean burn that makes HPDI models the most eco-friendly engines in their class. The secret? Yamaha engineers devised a way of atomising the fuel under enormous pressure, creating a fine, fuel-laden mist inside the combustion chamber rather than the relatively coarse droplets found in conventional engine designs. The result is more power, lower fuel consumption, and lower emissions.

And there's more: Six sophisticated sensors and a micro-computer Engine Control Module (ECM) adjust ignition timing, air/fuel mix and other vital settings on the fly. In recent tests, Yamaha's HPDI technology showed up to a 35% reduction in fuel consumption, at speed, over a conventional EFI system. Yet another example of Yamaha leadership. The mighty HPDI 300 At the high end of high technology, the HPDI 300 delivers 220kW (300hp) from a finely tuned 3.4-litre V6. Computer-optimised combustion, Autolube Multipoint™ oil injection, advanced noise reduction and 4-cylinder idling are just some of the features of this state-of-the-art engine. And, by the way, apart from a purpose-built racing engine, it's by far the most powerful outboard you can buy. Anywhere in the world.

Vmax HPDI 150 - 200 - 250

The Yamaha Vmax models. Taking HPDI performance to extremes. Take Yamaha's HPDI system (see the previous page) and combine it with tournament-proven engineering - and then stand well back. Because that's the formula behind the shattering acceleration and performance of the Yamaha Vmax models.

Hit the throttles and feel the power catapult you out of the hole. Feel how quickly and effortlessly the boat comes onto the plane. And then you'll realise why Yamaha introduced HPDI right across the Vmax family. Quite simply, it's an unstoppable combination.

These highly optimised engines are designed to deliver breathtaking ‘out of the hole' acceleration and blistering top speeds. Every aspect of the design - from the special water inlets to the unique concave skeg and the Peak Response Induction System - is geared for performance. This is where Yamaha's long experience in 2-stroke racing really shows!

Yet, beneath the street-fighter aggression of these engines, you'll find the polished good manners of a Yamaha. Every Vmax HPDI will run clean and smooth, with excellent fuel economy for its power. It will be quiet, too: barely audible at idle, with a restrained growl when pushed hard - proof yet again that when you're this big and powerful, you don't need to make a whole lot of noise about it.

Just switch on and go... When all that's needed is to get the most out of a pleasurable day's fishing or pottering about on a quiet lake or river, one of the range of Yamaha Electric Drives may be the perfect answer. A 12V battery is the only power source required and of course, there isn't a more user-friendly or environmentally friendly way to power a small boat. Despite their relative simplicity, the new Yamaha Electric Drives have some versatile features and are very easy to fit and to use. Mounting is effortless, as the drive unit is very light in weight, and the ingenious adjustable bracket makes it simple to fit the drive to the transom of almost any small boat.

Order/version: 2112210/049 (width: 297mm, height: 210mm) Print type: Outboard 2007 Brochure on , Full Colour Produced by Adnovate on 15-sep-2006 at 16:14:59 in Adobe InDesign 4.0.3.651 Low resolution proof not suitable for production purposes Page: 24

The comfortable twist-grip throttle makes smooth speed changes and control very straightforward under all normal conditions and manoeuvring is a real pleasure. These drives are tough, too. They feature permanent magnet motors, damageresistant casings and coatings, and a special composite drive shaft that won't bend, break or corrode in normal use. As a finishing touch, all Yamaha Electric Drives are fitted with a special Weedless Wedge propeller that maximises thrust, and is more resistant than most to trailing weeds and other underwater debris.

Flexible Rigging Although our smaller Yamaha models come ready equipped with everything you need for turnkey operation straight out of the box (apart, of course, from fuel) we know that with larger engines, many of our customers like to make their own personal choice of items to rig the boat, such as propellers, remote controls and instruments.

ECU

The style tells its own story The smart, sophisticated appearance of these stylish new gauges immediately speaks for itself; they are simpler and easier to install than conventional systems, they are a real pleasure to read and use … and every bit as tough and accurate as they look. We even offer a choice of round or square designs, and a range of mounts to suit your boat console; so if you own a 2007-model Yamaha EFI or HPDI outboard of more than 50hp then read on … because this is for you!

The reliability you expect from Yamaha

Compatibility that adds real functionality

At the heart of this revolutionary new experience for boat owners is a very robust (that's ‘reliable' in technical speak) Local Area Network system … or LAN; this offers a host of advantages, not only for the boat owner, but also for boat builders and dealers, for whom ease of rigging, fitting and maintenance is now a breeze. No more untidy jumbles of separate wires, hoses and cables; just streamlined, easy-to-connect bus harnesses from the engine to the hub and onwards to the instruments, with colour-coded connectors linking the components of the system. In addition, on-board diagnostics are a very simple procedure using a PC. You can also carry out regular system checks when you're driving. Once again, just like you do in your car.

Both the LAN system and the Digital Network Gauges are a perfectly engineered match for all 2007-model Yamaha outboards (EFI and HPDI models) from 50hp upwards, all of which are now fitted with a special pre-installed connection port, enabling the engine ECU to communicate directly and efficiently with the central network. What's more, the LAN system's ‘open architecture' and its NMEA 2000 compatibility also mean that many other peripherals can be connected easily to the network too. You can therefore add a GPS, radar or fish finder, as well as other navigation aids and equipment from electronics manufacturers who have chosen to use the NMEA 2000 protocol, opening up a whole new world of safer, more relaxed boating.

Accurate information is the key Perhaps the most obvious advantage, which will be appreciated by any boat owner, is the availability of a wider range of advanced, accurate gauges than ever before; everything from basic speedometer and tachometer displays, to warning and control information on a wide variety of engine functions. In addition, the LAN system offers the comforting advantage of fuel flow management as well as electronic control of idling/ trolling speed (F50/60/80/100); and if you choose to link your system to the (optional) triducer via the simple-to-install BUS harness, you can monitor speed, seawater temperature and depth as well. What's more, these are multi-function gauges, so the combination of functions displayed, as well as the order they appear, are user-selectable.

Understanding the Model Codes

The Model Names and code letters make it easy to select exactly the right outboard. As in the example below, the prefix letter indicates the basic engine type (Two Stroke, Four Stroke etc), the number gives a guide to approximate shaft horsepower, and the single letter immediately after the number shows the ‘generation' of the model. Any additional code letters identify the variant of the engine (ie: Electric or Manual Start, steering method, type of tilt system, shaft length etc).

Outboard Transom Heights

S To fit ‘Standard Transom Height' of approx 381mm (15ins)

Most Yamaha Outboards are available in a choice of shaft lengths (S • L • X • U) designed to match any boat transom height, and to allow the outboard to give its best performance with maximum efficiency.

L To fit ‘Standard Transom Height' of approx 508mm (20ins) 1

The ‘Outboard Transom Height' (Dimension 1) is not the same as the ‘Standard Boat Transom Height' (Dimension 2) because it is calculated to give the optimum shaft length, and therefore the most efficient positioning in the water, of the lower unit and the propeller.

28

Specifications

Yamaha ‘Outboard Transom Heights' are based on the following ‘Standard' Boat Transom Heights which should be used as a guide to choosing the right outboard.
