FILM. FEST. REPEAT! On behalf of our Board of Directors, tireless staff and generous volunteers, it is my honor to welcome you to the 11th Annual Gasparilla International Film Festival! On the heels of our unforgettable 10th anniversary, GIFF has expanded our festival to a full 8 day love affair with film—rallying our community around the magic of film and the art of storytelling. Last year’s festival captured more than 15,000 attendees from approximately 1,000 cities around the world. We are so excited to embark on GIFF’s next chapter with you all! GIFF continues to be one of the fastest-growing film festivals in Florida and this year’s program vows to go even further. As President of GIFF, I am proud of the festival we have created for you all to experience and enjoy. As such, GIFF has quickly become recognized as one of the top International Film Festivals in the nation and hopes to entertain and inspire audiences with its selective programming, educational panels and renowned filmmaker receptions. HOW TO FEST TICKETS ONLINE IN ADVANCE To purchase tickets for films and parties, visit GASPARILLAFILMFESTIVAL.COM and select SCHEDULE. Select the film or event you wish to attend and follow the directions to purchase. Individual film tickets are $12 and Opening and Closing Night film tickets $15. PICK UP & PROCEDURE Patrons who order tickets online can go directly to the “Cheng Gang” GIFF Box Office—sponsored by Kim & Alex Cheng. You must have a photo ID or have your purchase receipt. For all films, you must arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the film screening, and be seated prior to show time. If you are not seated before the film starts, your seat will be released to our rush line. DAY OF SHOW SALES If you haven’t ordered online and wish to purchase a ticket for a film that day, please go to “Cheng Gang” GIFF Box Office— sponsored by Kim & Alex Cheng (at the theater of the screening) to purchase in person. WAIT LIST/RUSH LINE SALES A dedicated rush line will be available for SOLD OUT films before the start time. At 5 minutes prior to film screening we will start selling tickets on an available seat basis.

Pass holders receive priority entry to the theater. Passes ADMIT ONE PERSON to each film screening and cannot be shared. You must arrive at the theater 15 minutes prior to the scheduled screening time and be seated 5 minutes prior to show time or your seat will be given to rush line patrons.

BILLION DOLLAR PITCH 2 PM Got a script? Ready for Hollywood? Pitch your passion. Winner gets a movie deal! From an agency mailroom to producing over 85 films equaling more than one billion dollars of box office revenue, Hollywood power producer, Randall Emmett (Lone Survivor, Everest, Precious Cargo, 2 Guns), shares his story of industry successes, failures, and everything in between. From experiences raising money to making deals with the studios, Emmett keeps the independent vision alive toward the filmmakers’ artistic and creative freedom while uncovering new talent. CULT CINEMA 101 4:30 PM Despite the cheeky title, this segment features an in-depth exploration of the unconventional, left-of-center films that seep into our brains and compel us to share them with (or “recruit”) new followers. Presenters Ann-Eliza Musoke-Taylor and Michael Martz – co-founders and co-curators of the award-winning Second Screen Cult Cinema series in downtown Tampa – will dissect the anatomy of cult movies, discuss their staying power with audiences, examine how they span genres and eras, and more. A CONVERSATION WITH BOB LAYTON 3 PM One of the comics industry’s true visionaries at every level, creator, writer, artist, designer, and entrepreneur, with over 5000 comic book credits to his name, Bob Layton has successfully migrated from comics to other media, including television, animation and feature films. If you’ve seen the Iron Man movies, then you’re familiar with Bob’s work. An intimate conversation with Bob, exploring where great ideas come from, how comics can make you a better filmmaker, and the art of pitching the perfect script. Not to be missed!

THE GRAND JURY AARON WALKER Aaron Walker is a filmmaker and Assistant Professor of Communication at UT, teaching within the Film and Media Arts program. He specializes in narrative filmmaking, performance, directing, screenwriting, and producing. He earned his BFA in Film and his BA in English Literature from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and his MFA in Film from Columbia University. He formerly worked in documentary production with Just Media in Denver, Colorado, working on social justice documentaries with Oscar-winner Daniel Junge.

CHRISTINA CAMPAGNOLA Christina Campagnola is an agent in the film finance and sales division at APA (Agency for the Performing Arts). During her time at APA she has sold award winning films in the festival circuit. She represents screenwriters, directors, and producers and consults for independent productions and film funds. Christina is on the advisory board for the IFP and serves on the Dean’s Council of the Florida State University Film School. She is also a mentor at the Ghetto Film School in the Bronx.

ESTEBAN VALDEZ Esteban Valdez, founder and Director of Echo Bridge, one of the top independent animation studios in North America that continues to produce 2D - hand drawn - animated works for commercials, music videos, television shows, short and feature films. A 5 time Addy, Communicator and Davey Award winner for animation, coffee enthusiast, and Stanley Kubrick fanatic. Esteban is a classically trained artist and animator. Recent projects include Harmonquest, Major Lazer, Axe Cop, and Ugly Americans.

STEVE PERSALL A founding member of the Florida Film Critics Circle, Persall accepted the movie critic position at the St. Petersburg (later Tampa Bay) Times in 1993, currently making him Florida’s longest-tenured journalist on that beat. He’s a founding member of the Florida Film Critics Circle, and also a member of the Southeastern Film Critics Association. His commentary on all things cinema is heard weekly on Tampa Bay’s Eagle 107.3 and WWBA-820 AM, and internationally on RadioIo. com, along with occasional television appearances on four local stations.

MICHAEL REPSCH A graduate of the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, Michael has distributed over 150 films to date. As the Senior Vice President of Distribution & Sales at Breaking Glass Pictures, Michael strategically manages the digital, festival and theatrical releases on all films. Additionally, Michael plays a key role in acquisitions, traveling to film festivals worldwide seeking unique content for domestic release and prospective international sales.

MARCUS OVNELL Marcus Ovnell made his feature directorial debut with ”The break-In” which received the World Showcase Grand Jury Award at GIFF 2015. Marcus studied filmmaking at NYFA and has a long experience from working in various film productions. Marcus is at the moment in development of 2 feature films and 1 TV drama.

CURTIS GRAHAM Raised in a photographic family, Curtis started taking pictures at age 15. He attended Los Angeles Art Center College of Design, which started a career in photography and filmmaking. Curtis has won many accolades including: N.Y. Art Director Award, Norma Award, National Addys, and Clio Award. A graduate of AFI, Curtis received the Mary Pickford Award Scholarship. His Master Thesis film the “The Blue Men” starring Estelle Parsons is listed as one of the most award winning films of 1990.

ANNE CHAISSON Anne Chaisson, Executive Director of The Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) since December 2012, has specialized in fundraising and development for entertainment non-profits as well as garnered awards as an independent film producer with her company Dirty Rice. Chaisson produced Jesse Eisenberg’s first feature film, Roger Dodger that earned a Best First Feature award at the Venice and Tribeca Film Festivals and honors from NYFCC, National Board of Review, The Gotham and Independent Spirit Awards.

STEPHANIE WEBB Stephanie Webb is the host of “Great Day Tampa Bay” on 10News WTSP. She is also a film/TV critic as a voting member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association and Broadcast Television Journalists Association that helps decide the annual “Critics Choice Awards”. As an avid movie lover and entertainment reporter she’s travelled the world interviewing celebrities and covering major film festivals like the Cannes and Toronto International Film Festivals. She also recently declared herself a “professional TV bingewatcher.”

ROBIN BRONK Robin Bronk is the Chief Executive Officer of The Creative Coalition, the premier nonprofit of the entertainment industry dedicated to educating and mobilizing the arts community on issues of public importance, particularly the First Amendment, arts advocacy and public education. She is a best-selling author, has a column in the Huffington Post and has won numerous awards and honors for her public affairs work.

ANDRES CASTILLO Andres Castillo was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Anthropology from Florida International University. In 2001, he created Tiwintza Media Producciones in Guayaquil to help launch electronic music and mixed visual media in that city. He worked at the Miami International Film Festival as a Senior Programmer. Andres is currently collaborating with the Borscht Film Festival.

TAMARA NEMIROVSKY Tamara Nemirovsky is a filmmaker, animator and educator, whose award-winning stop-motion films have been screened internationally. A Fulbright Scholar, she holds an MFA and is a faculty member at USF’s School of Art and Art History. She is also the Director of Video Productions at Absolute Mobile Solutions.

While camping, Chris tells Luci about the many murders that have taken place in the surrounding woods. Later, a distant rustling interrupts their make out session. But, it’s not the ghosts of the murdered victims. Because that would be impossible... Duh.

Picasso’s “1971 Harlequin Head”, believed forever lost in a Romanian Fire, is found vividly alive in a tortured man’s psyche.

The “Dogumentary” tells the story of how former Voices for Children of Tampa Bay Director Betsy Smith and Guardian ad Litem (GAL) volunteer and handler Brenda Kocher were able to bring the Courthouse Facility Dog Program and the film’s star, Tibet, to the Hillsborough County 13th Judicial Circuit. With the success of the program, which began in 2014, they hope to expand and bring more facility dogs to courthouses around the state of Florida.

LEGACY LETTERS DIR: TYLER COUNCIL | USA | 16 MIN A documentary exhibiting senior citizens as they create books about their lives in order to share them with future generations of family. The film showcases a Legacy Letters class lead by Leah Dobkin, who teaches her students how to reflect deeply on their past in order to chronicle their lives in creative ways.

A young boy reads his scary storybook before bedtime on a stormy night. When the power goes out, the image comes to life in his darkened bedroom.

Martha Gellhorn, an American novelist, travel writer, and journalist, considered one of the greatest war correspondents of the 20th century, was also with the third wife of American novelist, Ernest Hemingway, from 1940 to 1945. This narrative short is a moment of Gellhorn’s life. Gellhorn speaks to a friend on the phone lamenting her dissatisfaction with Hemingway and their relationship.

CONCESSIONS DIR:SAM BARTZ | USA | 7 MIN Frank, a recently divorced narcissist, attempts to win over his estranged son Bobby with a birthday reunion.
