Global Debuts For The Love of Dog http://www.broadcastermagazine.com/news/global-debuts-for-the-love-ofdog/1002633757/?&er=NA While it may be tempting to dismiss dog owners as obsessive eccentrics and social misfits who prefer canines to humans, For The Love of Dog reaches beyond the stereotype to examine this bizarre sub-culture. Dubbed a 'dogumentary', the film makes its world broadcast premiere on GLOBAL TV, October 19, 8PM ET. In a series of intertwined narratives, the documentary shows some of North America’s most passionate and colourful owners and their dogs. These are people from all walks of life who throw lavish dog weddings, attend “doga classes” and “paw-jama” parties, dance with their dogs in theatrical extravaganzas and hire psychics to re-connect with dogs that have passed on. Mama Hawk declares that her puppy, Princess, “doesn’t lie, doesn’t steal and doesn’t stab people in the back.” Darsey has a closet full of canine couture for her dog, Mille LaRue, David abhors dressing up dogs but is completely comfortable giving his dog, Elvis, a “Bark Mitzvah,” while a bereaved Wanda desperately tries to come to terms with having recently euthanized her cancer-ridden dog Butler. Just to name a few of the stories in For The Love of Dog. Despite concern or judgment from family and friends, their dogs are the central focus of their lives. Each story is told with openness and a striking intimacy, allowing us to understand the motivations and psyches of extreme dog owners. From the fun and playful to the profound and heartbreaking, For The Love of Dog, challenges our perceptions of how we relate to dogs and to each other. Executive Producers are Joy Rosen and Lisa Olfman. It was produced by Dale Burshtein and directed by Sarah Goodman. For The Love of Dog is produced by Omidog Productions Inc., a Portfolio Entertainment production, in association with Shaw Media, with the financial participation of the Canada Media Fund and with the assistance of the Ontario Film and Television Tax Credit and the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit. For The Love of Dog marks Portfolio Entertainment’s first foray into factual television. The company, best known for producing and distributing animated series such as The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That! (60 x 30) has a global reputation for creative excellence and entrepreneurial spirit.

When TV Goes To The Dogs James Bawden http://jamesbawden.blogspot.ca/2013/10/when-tv-goes-to-dogs.html

Some of them are photographed wearing the very latest fashions. Another casually plays the piano. Still another only eats gourmet dinners. All are canines of the four legged category and in the merry new documentary For The Love Of Dogs we're asked to eavesdrop on their completely captivated owners. One lady agrees she seems to be married to her dog. A childless couple lavish all their attention on their tiny dog. An archaeologist of some renown admits she even took her daschund on her digs --everything seemed OK until she started finding bones she had to hide from the dog. One family's idea of a real treat is to cuddle up with their dog and watch a movie on TV. We get to go to a bark mitzvah where guests dance all around and the center of attention gets to much on all sorts of meaty delicacies. We peek in on "doga" classes where dogs and owners chill out in heavy mediation moments. And what abut a different take on pyjama parties --here called, of course, paw-jama parties. The new hour documentary could have emerged as simply enjoyably silly. But it has depth and resonance --it's basically a riff on the modern problem of loneliness. Many of the owners only have their animal. Pampered doggie Millie gets to dress up and go to parties where she recognizes other dogs. Yes, there is a dog named Elvis profiled here. What would "The King" think about that? Sure, they go overboard but the dogs don't seem to care much of the time. They get pampered and petted and it's better than a cell at the local dog pound. One couple's idea of heaven is to cuddle with their pooch and watch a movie on TV. "She's our only child!" they admit. It would be very easy to make fun of these people. Instead producer Dale Burshtein and director Sarah Goodman (for Omigod Productioons and Portfolio Entertainment) accept their subjects for what they are. They're not there to poke fun but to join in the celebrations. And that's what makes For the Love Of Dog so fascinating. The dogs don't ask anything of their human "masters", they are completely of the moment. When one dog dies of lymphoma the female human survivor is distraught and begins studying up on reincarnation. One dog, Princess, has five new outfits every day. The Queen never wears the same dress and neither does this Princess. I like the quote "Dogs are more human than humans are" because it sums up the group philosophy of the hour. The holy muttrimony ceremony was mostly done with complete reverence. And as one lady says her dog has "been the little fur baby I needed." So for For The Love Of A Dog I dutifully dole out ***1/2 barks. FOR THE LOVE OF DOG PREMIERES ON GLOBAL TV ON SATURDAY OCTOBER 19 AT 8 P.M. MY RATING: ***1/2.

“For The Love Of Dog” Dogumentary Showcases Pampered Pooch Phenomenon Amy Tokic http://www.petguide.com/blog/dog/for-the-love-of-dog-dogumentary-showcasespampered-pooch-phenomenon/

TV series challenges our perceptions of how we relate to dogs When you talk about all the things you do for fur baby to other people (usually those who don’t have a dog), do you get some strange looks? We like to dress our dogs up, pamper them, include them in every aspect of our lives – we consider our dogs to be part of the family. And it’s no surprise that people like us are garnering attention from curious onlookers who want an inside look at our lives. And that’s just what they are hoping to see in the upcoming dogumentary “For The Love of Dog.”

Part of the “Obsessions” series, the world broadcast premiere of “For The Love Of Dog”, which airs on GLOBAL TV on October 19, 8PM ET, will take a look beyond the “Crazy Dog People” stereotype. This program interviews just a few passionate and colorful owners and their dogs. These are people from all walks of life who throw lavish dog weddings, attend “doga classes” and “paw-jama” parties, dance with their dogs in theatrical extravaganzas and hire psychics to re-connect with dogs that have passed on. It’s easy to roll your eyes when you hear about the lengths that people will go for their dogs. What this program hopes to accomplish is to give viewers an understanding about how important a role dogs play in these owners’ lives – not to mention the growing number of people who consider their dog’s to be a huge part of their life. Yes, there are some outrageous moments, but keep your tissues handy for a few heartbreaking stories as well. “For The Love of Dog” airs Saturday, October 19 at 8PM ET. If you don’t have access to GLOBAL TV (it’s a Canadian channel), you can watch it online – expect to see it online a few days after it broadcasts on the GLOBAL website. If you catch the show, please let us know what you thought of it. Does it go too far or does it go far enough? Does it paint an unfair portrait of pet parents? Please leave your thoughts in the comment section below.

On Oct. 19 – as part of their Obsession series lineup of documentaries – Global Television, Shaw Media unleashes For The Love of Dog, an intimate look at a culture-wide obsession that some call crazy. http://canineculture.ca/blog/2013/10/on-oct-19-as-part-of-their-obsession-series-lineupof-documentaries-global-television-shaw-media-unleashes-for-the-love-of-dog-anintimate-look-at-a-culture-wide-obsession-that-some-cal/

Oh, for the love of dogs! Our relationship with them spans up to 25,000 years. Descended from the grey wolf, dogs are considered the first domestic animal. Our bond with dogs knows no bounds. We have enmeshed them into our culture.

We have consumed, painted, photographed, written, and filmed, dressed, chained, trained and changed them – because we can. Entitlement or terms of endearment, call it love or obsession. Nature or Nurture, after millennia of togetherness, we are symbiotically connected species. The documentary For The Love of Dog, examines subjects whose dogs are the central focus of their life. This lens-eye-view is focused on the intense side of canine companionship–a narrow window about a particular segment of society, with healthy or unhealthy personalities. Dogs play a significant social role in their daily lives, and in some cases, in their pathologies. We meet Mama Hawk who declares that her puppy, Princess, “doesn’t lie, doesn’t steal and doesn’t stab people in the back.” A childless couple happily reads a nighty-night bedtime story to their little dog in her very own dolled-up bedroom. A dog training professional and impresario leads his charge of amateur performers and their dogs in over-the-top- theatre. And a bereaved pet parent seeks answers from a reincarnation expert.

This doc shines a whole new light on the saying, “love me, love my dog,” and on a mindset in which canines become four-legged humans. Airing October 19, 2013 | 8:00 p.m. ET For The Love of Dog is produced by Omidog Productions Inc., a Portfolio Entertainment Productions in association with Shaw Media. Executive Producers are Joy Rosen & Lisa Olfman. It was produced by Dale Burshtein and directed by Sarah Goodman.
