This is an ongoing live project started with the objective to redesign Forbes Marshall’s Minimax Burner. After the detailed research and study it was found that there is a requirement of shift manufacturing process of Blower Volute from fabrication to sand casting. Thus there is an opportunity for the design-team to exploit and evolve a form which can effectively overcome past limitations and can delight the situation. Also there is a possibility that this can provide an exclusive identity to Forbes Marshall ‘Burner’.

Ajay (28 years)is a bachelor. He is very foodie and often feels like taking nap at afternoon. He is familiar with basic mechanism and also can repair basic automobile. He is very enthusiastic and hard working. He has worked as a mechanic before. Now he works with HP gas since 3 years. His working timings are morning 9 to evening 7. His work is to load and unload cylinder from truck. Everyday he has to unload 300 to 900 filled LPG Cylinder from truck to other vehicle single handedly. He has often seen accidents while unloading the cylinder from truck. Many of his colleagues and he himself has fractured his toe due to mishandling of cylinder.
Need/ Problem Finding –Step by step process of Unloading cylinder from Truck
Cylinders are stacked in three layers.
Only one person should unload full truck (300 cylinders).
Total height of three stacked cylinders comes to 6 feet to 6.25 feet.
As, 30 kg / 40kg cylinder cannot be lifted from 6 feet height, it is slided over 2nd stacked layer.
Thus, often sliding of 3rd layer takes 2nd layers cylinder with it, causing major injuries.
Cylinders are often rolled by kicking.
Design BriefThere is a need to avoid the personnel to slide the cylinder from 3rd layer to 2nd layer while unloading ; by designing a retrofit to the truck trolley which will enable the personnel to unload the 3rd stacked cylinder more safely.

Duration :14 days The Course aims at providing insights on the ecological foot prints in the process of design development and manufacturing of products, systems and services.
Can be easily found lying on road, or from flex printing agencies free of cost, or in minimal cost of 50 paisa per square feet.
• Made up of Poly Vinyl Chloride, thus non biodegradable. • Thickness varies from 280 gsm to 440 gsm • Width can be up to 10 feet and length can be 100% customized. • Sheets cannot be printed both sides and cannot be recycled, as they are printed with ink. • It’s life can be of 3 years depending on thickness and environment in which it is used. • Printed banner costs from Rs. 15 to Rs 40 per sq. feet. • Used banner can be obtained free or purchased @ 50 paisa per sq. feet.
Scenario undertaken
:
Reuse the banner to increase its functional life thus, avoid use of other non-biodegradable material for similar purpose. Also keeping in mind of mass production of the product.
Even if people wish they are not able to use bike cover……why? Issues Of Existing Bike Cover: • Difficult to put on and remove, due to the form of bike. • Expensive for one time use, chances of being stolen are more. (Can we design with such a cost that people will not bother to purchase it again) • Have to wrap after removing the cover.
Conceptualization: Understanding the properties of material, which can be stitched, hot stamped and can retain wrinkles in lateral direction; when folded. Using front foot rest of bike as centre and length and height as major and minor axis, Chinese folds are adopted to get the required structure.

Duration : 14 days To regard Nature as vast information resource and to gain learning and insights from it. Also, to study the elements of a natural object, its environment and understanding of the principles and functionalities resulting in the ultimate form acquired in its Geometry, Interrelationships with other elements, Purpose, function, Integration, Structure, Textures, Growth and growth patterns, Colour etc.
I chose Human Hand as my inspiration from nature with the first thought that it is such multifarious organ of human body and is very
close to us to observe, which is mostly ignored as it is actually very close.
Motives
Motives were evolved out of the sketches , so that it would become easy to interpret, and evolve a design out of it. The motive of Fingerprint and Hand with Thumbs Up were chosen as it was more close to geometric form.
Concept 1
Inspired by Hand Thumbs Up
Teether
At the age of 2, babies are required to leave breastfeeding and start bottle feeding, but they don’t accept the bottle feeding and start thumb sucking, which is dangerous. With this motive I design a product which is inspired by thumb sucking position of hand. A product which can enable the baby to have a illusion of thumb sucking, and thus makes him familiar with bottles.
A Teether cum Sipper for the age 1 to 2 years is derived. This product gives the baby the same position to hold the product as he or she while sucking thumb and making baby familiar with bottle feeding.
Concept 2
Inspired by Fingerprints
Biometric Fingerprint Scanner
A biometric fingerprint scanner was evolved with the motive of finger print.
Conceptualization
A finger print (texture of hand) inspired biometric fingerprint scanner can be put on top of table and can be mounted on wall.

Duration :14 days COMMUNICATION
EMOTION
FUNCTION
Packaging for COMMUNICATION : User should get a feel of how the wig will look on him. EMOTION : When not worn wig should be Kept Less Visible.
FUNCTION : Should occupy least space, should have more life than product, less weight, keeps the product safe.
Existing Packaging/Display of the product
Problem statement: There is a need of a product packaging which will help in retaining the original shape of the wig. Also, increase usage privacy of user.
Conceptualization: And thus Concept Ideation began with thorough understanding of the dimension of a human head and all those things which are placed near dressing table, since that is the place where wig has to be placed.
Products around dressing table were analyzed, as these are the product which lives at the same place where wig lives. Like; Night lamp, Artifacts, Show pieces, Cloth hanger, Table lamp.
Final concept A Concept was evolved taking the inspiration from a coat hanger, on which the wig can be easily placed without disturbing its actual shape and quality. The proposed concept can be hanged in the wardrobe and can also be placed on table. Thus satisfying user problems.
Actual 1:1 scale model was prepared to test the product, and the packaging of the product is made of same material from which the product was inspired i.e. Cloth Hanger.
Duration : 28 days Understanding technical requirement of existing product and integrating its components aesthetically. Also considering ergonomic principals and visual semantics to develop efficient and user friendly product.
Redesign of Cordless Liquid Mosquito Repellent
Issues to Handle (Pain Areas) Unidirectionality of Plug; a plug which can also be used on extension board satisfying the user problem of getting repellent till floor or can be used on lawns or open spaces where switch board is far away. Eliminating or changing the position of bosses, which in existing product reduces it aesthetic value. Finding ways through which the repellent liquid can be fully utilized. Integrating the form and making it as a single unit. Ensuring that the form of the product should visually semantesized with the function of the product.
Experiment An experiment was performed to understand the nature of flow of vapours from the product. Dhuup stick of same diameter and same exposure to heat was taken to get relative study.
Experiment Results (In presence of fan). Circulation of repellent is only on same side where product is place and not even till floor. The other side remains unaffected. Experiment Conclusion If by any condition first instant direction of repellent vapours be at centre of the room then circulation may be possible.
Thus, Conceptualization got started keeping in mind the pain areas.

Battery casing A huge capacity storage cabinet introduced at the front body to ease the user to use it while sitting on the seat. The sliding mechanism is achieved by having a telescopic circular section, which is connected to chassis and rear mono suspension of the body. The rear body is connected to the telescopic section, as the body slides, the wheel base increases and the riding position is ready. A stopper can be provided to hold the body when it is rotated and opened, through the pivot which is placed at the bottom part of the rear body. The battery casing is placed over the platform which is placed above chassis.

Crude, mechanical, robotic, symmetrical, skeleton, static were the most visible attributes of the existing product.
Which was manipulated by using radii manipulation and the attributes of a household churner was evolved. Evolved form out of Keywords i.e. FLOWFUL, FEMININE, CULTURAL, DYNAMIC Also the form gives the churning character which is also the Function of Product
Turning lathe operation is learnt while making the flower pot. A cuboid of rubber wood measuring 5 x 3 inch was given to make a productive and expand volume. A symmetrical looking compact disk shelf is evolved from the raw wood.
A 2x2 feet corrugated sheet was given to understand its property and make a product out of it. A laptop case was evolved by the property that corrugated material can absorb good amount of shocks.
A college assignment was performed where a right handed nail cutter was chosen to make a look alike model. The product was chosen to have a deep understanding of curves and surfaces which was fairly achieved. During the process detail knowledge of handling aluminium metal was studied. Model was scaled up by the ratio 1:2.2 Complete model is made only by hand.
