James J. Gavigan established Gavigan Homes in 1969, when he returned home after serving as a combat engineer for the Army during the Vietnam War. He had gained valuable building – and life – experience during the war, and he quickly put his skills and talents to use back home.

For more than 40 years, Gavigan Homes has been recognized as a leading builder of custom homes throughout upstate New York. Gavigan Homes relocated to the coastal southeast in 2005, following the migration of northeasterners and their homebuilding needs. That was also the year that James’ son, Billy, followed the path his father had cut. After 12 years as an enlisted Marine and Officer, he left the Corps to lead the building company and ensure the family legacy.

James is still active as Chairman and advisor for the business he founded. The Gavigans continue their tradition of service to country and community, a tradition started in the 1940s by Billy’s grandfathers. Gavigan Homes continues to be renowned for quality custom homes and affordable prices.
