system-ground constructs
The first exercise in this series involved analysis of tower karst topography and their system of erosion. Next was an examination of Álvaro Siza’s Leça Swimming Pools, specifically its winding circulation which forces discovery and interactions with the ground (embedded and extruded). Given a site in Central New York, the next step was to combine the systems collected from these precedents to design a prospective public bathhouse on the Jamesville Beach Park. Fall 2023 - Prof. Cait McCarthy

representation
A collection of visual exercises to further skills in Rhinoceros and Adobe Illustrator. Starting with an example of a protoarchitecture utilizing various 2D-3D conversion modeling techniques in Rhino, this abstract construction takes an atypical form, extracts a wireframe, and recreates a habitable object. Following are composite drawings with fanciful meanings while continuing to explore both artistic and technical techniques used in representation. Last are arrangements of various technical styles.

unit aggregation
Following a precedent analysis exercise and given a vacant site in Syracuse, NY, the studio was challenged to create a potential youth hostel. Referencing the system found in the gallery facade of Mansilla + Tuñon’s León Auditorium, the hostel manifests itself through unit aggregation, with a single asymmetrical chunk rotating in plan and section to create funky usable spaces. Spring 2023 - Prof. Molly Hunker
