Free iPad Apps
About this booklet Learn, Create or be inspired
Dear parents, carers, students and families, We have compiled this booklet containing details a number of different Apps which are free to download from the App Store on your iPad. The list is based on recommendations from our Digital Directors and contains apps which are great for learning, some for organising and some are just fun or inspiring. Many of them may be useful or just enjoyable for everyone in the family to use, not just our students. We hope that you will be able to find some time to explore these apps and see how they might inspire, amuse or help your whole family. Some of the apps listed in this booklet link to subscriptions held by the school (Rosetta Course and BrainPOP UK) and details are provided for how you can access the school’s subscription service via the app. In addition, we have provided details of 2 new apps (Student Planner and Foldr) that will be used by the students in 2014. These will enable students to use their iPad more as an organisational tool, and also as a method of accessing the school network and sharing their homework more freely with their teachers. For those with iPads or with other devices, both of these services will be available via the internet from another device. This is an exciting development for the mobile learning project and we look forward to sharing more details of this in 2014. At Clevedon School, we firmly believe that iPads and mobile technology can enhance the learning experience, both in and out of the classroom. They can enable parents to share and access their child’s learning in ways not previously possible, and they can provide some wonderful opportunities for adults and children to explore and learn together. I hope that you will enjoy sharing some of the apps in this booklet with your family and I look forward to the next exciting year in our project’s development. Yours sincerely, John Wells Headteacher Please note that descriptions and price (i.e. free) are based on the app’s current status at the time of publishing (December 2013) and may be subject to change by the App Store. Many of these apps are also available for Android devices – These are indicated by the Android logo by the app details. DECEMBER 2013
