Autodesk Revit Architecture is a robust architectural design and documentation software application created by Autodesk for architects and building professionals. The tools and features that make up Revit Architecture are specifically designed to support building information modeling (BIM) workflows.

Autodesk has released several versions of Revit since 2004. In 2005 Revit Structure was introduced, then in 2006 Revit MEP. After the 2006 release Revit Building was renamed Revit Architecture. Since Revit 2013 the different disciplines have been rolled into one product, simply called Revit.

Revit vs. AutoCAD. ... The main difference is that AutoCAD is primarily a drafting tool to create basic geometry that represents real life, while Revit is used to create geometry that is equipped with real-life information, hence the term building information modelling, or BIM.

Revit is a single application built for Building Information Modeling with features for architectural design, MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) and structural engineering and construction. Revit is not BIM. Revit is built for BIM. Revit and other applications made for BIM help designers design, simulate, visualize and collaborate in order to capitalize on the advantages of the interconnected data within a BIM model. The key word in BIM is â&#x20AC;&#x153;Informationâ&#x20AC;?. BIM is centered on models made up of objects. Revit creates these objects which consist of data designers can see in different views: 2D drawings, 3D models and schedules (lists). When one piece of data changes in one view, it is updated in all other views automatically by Revit because each view is displaying the same data. Objects can also be related to other objects. So, to repeat, if one object changes, any related objects reflect those changes as well.

Revit has changed the architecture design, drafting and modeling processes by accomplishing substantial improvements in precision and efficiency. With Revit software, architectural designers can now rapidly sketch out rough layouts of a floor plan, or make changes to the standard set of building designs and instantly let their customers preview their future homes. 3D design views give designers the opportunity to quickly try out different designs, while high-quality documents let them detect and correct problems early in the design process â&#x20AC;&#x201C; and that equals big savings on time and money. Also, Revit comes with a full set of parametric building design components that can be customized and saved for use in future projects. And the program has environmental benefits as well â&#x20AC;&#x201C; energy modeling and environmental responsiveness are core components of its design process.

FLEXIBLE & DYNAMIC Professionals who completed their architectural training using conventional CAD technology will notice right away that Revit is not simply a drafting program – it’s a powerful, dynamic database. Unlike AutoCAD, Revit allows all project data to be stored in a single project file, permitting multiple users to work on the same project file and merge their changes with every save. All changes in Revit are coordinated across the entire project, so a change in one place (view) is a simultaneous change in all views. This is perhaps Revit’s most striking difference from previous tools: section views, elevations, and schedules are live views of the Single Building Model and require no updates or refreshing when the model changes.

SCHEDULE OR QUANTITY Schedules are spreadsheets connected to Our model. If an element is modified in the model, it will be updated in the schedule and the other way around. As awesome and useful as schedules are, Autodesk made them quite complicated to use. The menus and interface are labyrinths. Our goal is to make schedules as simple as we can.
