MR GAY CANADA Delegate Application The Mr Gay Canada competition’s purpose is to provide an opportunity by creating a positive image for young gay men to make a ‘difference’ and be accepted within their own communities. Through education and public performances, MGC’s goal is to help create positive, authentic and empowered role models that will be a champion for Gay Human Rights within his own community as well as, on a global stage. Through these public performances, outreach and education, MGC will raise awareness of issues pertinent to young gay men, such as safe sex awareness, bullying and self-acceptance. The MGC competition will take place over an intense three days and includes various challenges including a photo challenge, sports challenge, fashion show/run way challenge, swim suit challenge, public speaking and a local outreach challenge where MGC is able to work with a local charity to give back to the community in hosting the competition. A maximum of 12 delegates will be selected for this year’s competition. The aim is to have a delegate representing as many provinces and territories as possible. Delegates can represent their place of birth (must provide birth certificate) or place of residence (must provide valid ID). Delegates will be responsible for their own transportation to and from Whistler for the competition. Delegates must be in Whistler by 3pm on February 9/2011. All housing (shared accommodations) will be provided and there will be some meals included. Delegates will be responsible for other meals and any other personal expenses. The competition will take place from Thursday February 9th to Saturday February 11th, which coincides with the annual WinterPRIDE festival. Delegates will have a complimentary pass to festival events, though most events will host elements of the competition. Delegates will be provided with a detailed schedule of events and requirements before arriving in Whistler. Delegates may need to provide some of their own “outfits” for some public appearances. The final official event will be at the Après Ski on Saturday February 11th, where the winner of Mr Gay Canada will be announced. Delegates will be free to celebrate at the final party, Snowball. Respect is the main task of each delegate and organizer and we know we can rely on you to lead by example. Be on time, co-operate, be patient, and participate in all training, workshops, photo-shoots, rehearsals, and performances with a smile. Be a good sport - help your colleagues. Show your confidence, if you are uncomfortable with any matter please ask the advise of one of the organizers. We are there to help you through this challenging and exciting experience to represent our nation in the Mr. Gay World competition in South Africa (April 4-8, 2012). Enjoy a drink or two but never have too many that others will stop enjoying your company. Use of illegal drugs will not be tolerated. You must be a minimum of 19 years of age one month prior to the competition. Identify as a gay male. Have a valid Canadian passport MGC (Mr. Gay Canada), its partners and agents including but not limited to MGW (Mr. Gay World) has the exclusive rights to use, publish, and reproduce all images, videos, pictures, and recorded materials of you in perpetuity, without limit or fees. MGC and/or its partners/agents will only use images in appropriate media with appropriate captions.
