A Message from the Premier January 2011 As Premier of the Province of British Columbia I am pleased to welcome everyone to the 19th annual Gay Whistler’s 2011 WinterPRIDE festival. I would especially like to welcome those who are experiencing Whistler for their very first time. As you will notice, this was the hub of 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games’ sports and entertainment, and there are reminders of that exciting BC experience throughout the Village. I understand that the events you have scheduled will provide attendees with a variety of exciting entertainment. I am sure everyone will have a great time enjoying the events and the camaraderie. I would like to commend all those who have worked hard in the planning of this year’s event and hope everyone enjoys their time at our world renowned year-round sport and leisure location. Sincerely,
Gordon Campbell Premier

A Message from the Mayor January 2011 Dear Guests of WinterPRIDE: Whistler is proud to welcome back WinterPRIDE. We embrace the diversity that the LGBTT community represents, and we work with our partners to make Whistler an even more inclusive mountain resort community. I was pleased to participate in the opening of the 2010 Pride House Whistler at the Pan Pacific Village Hotel. It was a first in the history of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, and the organizers are to be congratulated for its great success. Whistler is very proud of its role in those extraordinary Games and recognizes the contribution to inclusivity represented at Pride House. We hope you take the time to explore all of the beauty and unique experiences our resort has to offer. Enjoy world-class Nordic skiing in Whistler Olympic Park, incredible alpine skiing adventures, canopy tours, snow shoeing in the Ancient Cedars forest or the wide variety of spas; fine dining, shopping and exciting nightlife you have come to expect. Most of all we hope you enjoy your Pride experience. Have a wonderful holiday and we look forward welcoming you again perhaps this coming summer when Vancouver and Whistler host the 2011 North America Outgames, July 24-31, 2011. Warmest regards,
Mayor Ken Melamed

A Message from Tourism Whistler January 2011 Dear guests of WinterPRIDE: Welcome to Whistler! As the President and CEO of Tourism Whistler, I am honoured to welcome you to the resort. This is an exciting time to be visiting Whistler. Last year, the community welcomed the world as Host Mountain Resort for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and this winter, we continue to celebrate all that is Whistler. As a result of its involvement in the Games, the resort benefited with substantial amenity improvements and additions including the improved Sea to Sky Highway, the Whistler Olympic Park Nordic Centre in the Callaghan Valley, the Whistler Sliding Centre on Blackcomb Mountain, the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre and the Passivhaus at Lost Lake Park, a self-heating, cooling and ventilating building which was the nation house for Austria and the home of the Austrian public broadcaster ORF during the Olympics and now serves as a permanent building for the Whistler Nordics and the Whistler Off Road Cycling Association. Indeed, Whistler offers a vast array of activities, cultural events and dining, shopping and nightlife options – all of which will make your Whistler visit a memorable one. In addition to enjoying your time on the mountains and in the village, I encourage you to visit our Olympic legacies while you are here. WinterPRIDE was an important partner in the 2010 Winter Games, organizing the first ever PRIDE House which provided a place for everyone to enjoy the fun and celebratory spirit of the Games with family and friends. WinterPRIDE continues to be a vital resort partner and plays a significant role in promoting the resort’s culture of diversity and unity. I extend congratulations to the event organizers for the continued success of this event and for the ongoing efforts to raise awareness of Whistler. Tourism Whistler is a proud partner of WinterPRIDE and we look forward to continuing to work with organizers on this successful, vibrant event. I hope you enjoy your time in Whistler! Sincerely, Barrett Fisher President & CEO, Tourism Whistler

WinterPride Festival Guide 2011 55
FAQ Q Are there any additional perks to my 7 day, Mid Week or Weekend Pass? A Yes, not only did you save some on the bundle pass, you have the flexibility of doing as much or as little as you want. It’s sort of like a Season Pass. You can also flash your pass to our retail partners and save or get a special gift! Q Are there gay ski/snowboard guides for all levels of skiers/riders? A Yes, we have ski guides available every day for all levels of skiers & riders so come up and ski/ride with your level group. There are also lesbian led groups! Q Are tickets transferable or refundable? A Regrettably No. Q My partner and I are looking to get married. Can we do this while at WinterPRIDE? A Yes, we have several options available for you; just contact us at guest services. Q What are our options to get back to Vancouver? A We have several options for you, visit our website under travel or see us at guest services. Q Is it too late to volunteer? A No, come on down to the guest services suite and talk with our Volunteer Manager, Carson or one of our volunteer leads. Q What can I do if I do not ski or snowboard? Will I be bored? A There are hundreds of things for you to do and you will not be bored! Here are a couple examples: Sight See on Whistler & Blackcomb – Ride the Whistler Village Gondola and then take the new Peak 2 Peak Gondola for a bird’s eye view of these massive mountains, take in one of the culinary or wellness seminars, go dog sledding or fly through the forest like a Jedi Knight or Indiana Jones with ZipTrek or luxuriate in one of the spas. Stop by our guest services desk for more ideas and suggestions! Q When is WinterPRIDE 2012? A February 5-12, 2012. It will be our 20th Annual and we are so excited! If you have stories, video, photos over the past 20 years you want to share… send to 20@gaywhistler.com Q Why should we book through your official booking channel? A This is one of the only tools we have available to give accurate numbers to our resort partners in the success of the festival and ensure the continued value we are able to give to you, the consumer. The alternative to this is diminished support as it is unclear who is actually staying for the festival which may result in higher future costs and ties our hands as organizers what we can ask for in the future. There is the lowest price guarantee so you can be assured you are getting the best rate available. Q What is Whistler like in the summer? Outgames July 24-29, 2011 A Whistler in the summer is total magic! As the snow makes a quick retreat and the village sheds the winter layers, Whistler is transformed into the ultimate summer playground. Amazing mountain biking and hiking just to name a few and now with the new Peak 2 Peak gondola – summer sight seeing takes on a whole new altitude! This summer Whistler will play host to the North America Outgames! Visit GayWhistler.com for details.
