I hope everyone has been enjoying their summer. It always goes by way too fast! Our first PWB Event is right around the corner– August 5th. This will be a fun night to reconnect with everyone and kick-off a new season for PWB. We have great events planned for the rest of the year– check out the calendar page and save the dates. I’m looking forward to meeting and getting to know many new PWB members. We have such a dynamic and diverse group of women. Please come join us and bring a friend!

GBAHB PWB August 2014 Member Spotlight

Jill’s Alma Mater:

War Eagle! Jill earned her Marketing Degree from Auburn University, and a MBA from UAB.

Jill is a Past Professional Women in Building President and currently serves as the PWB’s Advisor. Jill is a dependable asset to our council as she guides us with wisdom and creative ideas. We are very grateful to serve beside her. Jill also serves as the GBAHB Membership CoChair and served on the Associates Council from 2011-2013.

Jill just marked 10 years as a Residential Market Specialist for Alabama Power. She provides reliable electric service and promotes the benefits of energy efficiency and electric products in new homes. Jill loves her job. She says she never knows what the day will bring until the phone starts ringing. She is proud to work for a company that supports the homebuilding industry and E: jpsills@southernco.com gives her the opportunity to be P: 205.281.2850 involved in the Association.

Family Fun: Jill and her husband, Nathan, met at an Auburn football game in 2006. Together they still enjoy Auburn football and raising their adorable 2 year old son, Nolan; who is definitely Jill’s pride and joy.

The members of the PWB are dedicated to serving the GBAHB. We work hard and play harder. I believe the best is yet to com for the PWB and I’m looking forward to the new adventures, new friendships, and all of the fun that comes along with it.

Mary Steadman of Land Title Co of Alabama is our local PWB Past President. Currently she serves as the NAHB PWB Legislative Chair. Mary and her team are leading this successful Build Pac fundraiser. NAHB PWB raised $10,000 for Build Pac with the sale of the luggage tags at the NAHB Spring Board Meeting. Congratulations Mary, on a job well done! Contributions to BUILD-PAC are completely voluntary . Federal law requires political action committees to re-port name, mailing address, occupation and name of employer for each individual whose contribution ex-ceeds $200 in a calendar year. Foreign nationals cannot contribute to BUILD-PAC.


MAY RECAP PWB Members volunteered with Alicia Huey of AGH Homes to build Ms. Smith’s Home. PWB Member, LeArden Pike, and her husband Elliot of ELM Construction; also built a home for the BLITZ.

PWB Members volunteered painting, cleaning, and assembling cabinets for Miss Samuels’ new home.

Fast Pitch PWB & The Remodeler’s Council presented ‘Fast Pitch’, a speed networking event. $10,000 was raised to send new leadership to national and state meetings; better equipping our members for leadership.

A Closer Look at GBAHB PWB Come join a group of diverse and fun women working together to make a difference for the home building industry, growing personally and professionally, making lasting relationships, and having fun along the way. PWB hosts monthly events with a wide variety of programs including education, fun networking, community outreach, and advocacy for the home building industry. We hosted the Chili Cook Off this past November and raised $4,000 for ABPAC. We have many more exciting events coming up for 2014!
