At the necessary juncture of culture and place, architecture seeks not only the minimal ruin of landscape but something more difficult: a replacement of what was lost with something that atones for the loss. In the best architecture, this replacement achieves an intensification of a place: landscape emerges no worse for human invention, and culture’s shaping of a place to specific use results as a heightening of the beauty of the landscape. In these places we seem worthy of existence. - W G Clark -

Education Sample | Wentworth Institute of Technology Project: Total Shelter Description: Emergency Shelter Structure Course: Responsive Architecture Brief: In the event of a disaster, an emergency, or situation of displacement, the deployment of emergency shelter is pivotal in the protocol for offering relief and safety to those affected. The problem at hand lies in how not all crisis shelter systems on the market today are accessible, easy to assemble, self-sustained, or adaptable to different climates. The implementation of emergency shelters should not add more chaos to an already chaotic situation. Users should feel at ease, knowing in the case of a disaster, a shelter to house them is readily available, and will contribute to offering safety and a health-revitalizing environment; especially in the presence of toxic conditions, or harsh climates.

Precedent Studies:
-Water Filtration | Film Fibre Material The more integrated a filtration system can be with the materials used to build the project at hand, the more successful the outcome of that project performing to the highest standards of efficiency and sustainability will be
-Eden Project | Cornwall, England
-Solar Energy Collection | Perovskite Two areas of photovoltaic development that affect this proposal are the flexible textile solar panel, and the increased efficiency and lowered cost of photovoltaic technology through the use of new materials and advanced manufacturing methods

Education Sample | Wentworth Institute of Technology Project: Case Study Dossier Description: Peruvian Spanish Colonial House Course: Adventures in the Vernacular Brief: After conducting research, studies and explorations of the Peruvian Spanish Colonial House, I was able to unearth conclusions that illustrated this typology in a social and culturally rich light, rather than architecturally. Casa Aliaga specifically, seeing how it was constructed in the same time frame that Lima was founded, stands as a classic example of Spanish stature and viceroyalty within the many regions in South America that were stripped of their Inca presence. That statement in and of itself defines the intentions with which these Peruvian Spanish Colonial mansions were built with; to wipe out any signs of what was before, and pay extravagant and illustrious tribute to the reign of Spanish culture, particularly in the 1500s.

Casa de Osambela: 1807
Moorish Baroque (Archbishop’s Palace of Lima, 1535) : While not a primary style in and of itself, Moorish Baroque is usually considered an element of neo-colonial styles, especially in countries who represent Moorish heritage in their architecture.
Casa de Aliaga: 1535
Casona Riva Aguero: 1760
Palacio Torre Tagle: 1715
Casa Goyenecha: 1771
Purism (University of Alcala de Henares, 1543) : This was a representative style of the beginning of Renaissance architecture in Spain between 1530 and 1560.
Spanish Colonial (Basilica Cathedral of Arequipa, 1545) : Spanish Colonial architecture was part of a major movement taking place, especially in the New World, and was the representative style of Spanish Colonization that resonated through architecture being built, and the way that new cities were being planned. This style is especially synonymous with Spanish heritage. Genevieve Beloin
