Agnes Carrie Johnson went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. She was born in Clinton, NC on October 31, 1940 to Jesse and Susie Williams. At a young age the Johnson family relocated to Newport News, VA. She was educated in the Newport News School system and attended Huntington High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Gus Edward Johnson at a young age. Together they were the proud parents of seven children. She was the head chef at Monty’s Penguin restaurant. Agnes retired as a cook for over 50 years. She was known for her delicious meals and loved to feed everyone, especially on Sundays and holidays. She was a joyful mother, grandmother, and love her great grands. There was a feisty and determined spirit about her. She meant what she said, especially when she started shaking her finger. Agnes enjoyed her family and would love for them all to be together, especially to spoil the little ones. Christmas was a special holiday for her. She would decorate her home and make sure everyone had a gift under the tree. Along with cooking, she would sit on the porch, piecing together puzzles and playing computer games. Though not a professional, she was gifted to be an interior designer and could re-purpose furniture skillfully.

She was a servant of the Lord and enjoyed worshiping at her church, Calvary Baptist Church, Newport News. Anyone could experience her warm smile as she ushered members into worship. Greeting her in heaven is her husband, Gus Edward Johnson, and two of her sons, Jeff and Gary. Left to cherish precious memories are her sons Curtis Johnson of Hampton and Kenneth Johnson of Hampton; her daughters, Regina JohnsonCarter of Hampton, Sharon Johnson and Shelia Johnson; sisters, Annie Mae Alston of Bridgeport, Connecticut, Gwendolyn Anderson of Hampton and Carol Williams of Hampton; brother, Earnest Fryor (Lydia) of Garland, NC; grandchildren, Tameca Johnson, Ebony Richardson, Erica Richardson; 5 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Until We Meet Again Poem

by Toni Kane We think about you always we talk about you still, You have never been forgotten and you never will. We hold you close within our hearts and there you will remain, To walk and guide us through our lives until we meet again.

Perhaps you sent a lovely card, Or sat quietly in a chair. Perhaps you sent a flower piece, If so, we saw it there. Perhaps you said the kindest words, That any friend could say. Perhaps you were not there at all, Just thought of us that day. Whatever you did to console our hearts, We thank you so much - Whatever the part. ~The Johnson Family
