The Life of
Reverend Albert J. Dozier, Jr. Reverend Albert J. Dozier, Jr. slipped away quietly into eternal rest on Friday February 25, 2022 while at Sentara Hospice House. He was born to the late Albert J. Dozier, Sr. and Mary L. Dozier on June 6, 1954 in Norfolk County, Virginia. Albert Jr., who had many nicknames, “Flash”, “Junior”, and “Reverend”, was reared in the Fentress section of Norfolk County Virginia now Chesapeake. He was educated in the City of Chesapeake School System. Albert Jr. was well-known and well-loved in and around the Fentress community. He could often be seen walking Fentress Road on his way to church and right across the street from his home to the “Yellow Store.” He was a friendly and likable person, always willing to help others. For example, he would take out the
trash for his neighbor or do yard work throughout the community. He also helped at construction sites in the community and frequented a wood shop where he made crosses for family and friends. Albert Jr. was an all and all nice person, enjoyable to be around as he wore the brightest smile in the world. Albert Jr. was baptized at an early age at New Weeping Mary Missionary Baptist Church. He remained an active member of New Weeping Mary Missionary Baptist Church until his death. Albert Jr. was licensed as a “Lay Minister,” in the church, he served as a member of the Male Chorus and thoroughly enjoyed singing with the men, to the glory of God! He was most noted for his work as the “traffic sheriff” during Revival Services and at Funerals. He made sure that traffic flowed smoothly and the cars were properly parked. Reverend Albert J. Dozier, Jr. spoke boldly and openly about his faith. He was not ashamed to praise God. He could be seen at any moment, like David in the bible, dancing in the Spirit,
going back and forward across the altar, giving glory to God. He loved his church, his pastor, his family, friends and most of all, he loved his God. Reverend Albert J. Dozier, Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, his Aunt, Ella Mae Simons and Uncle Curnes Simons , who reared him; and special Aunt, Mary Brite whom he affectionately referred to as “Mama.” Left to cherish his memories are five sisters; Easter Dozier, Carolyn Dozier, Gladys Hurdle (Robert Nichols, Jr- Special Friend), Denita Dozier and Margaret Godwin (Victor); two brothers; William Dozier and Benjamin Sutton (Musu Kamara); an Aunt, Mable Speller and an Uncle Albert James (Shirley); five nieces, two nephews and a host of great nieces, great nephews, other relatives, and friends. Reverend Albert J. Dozier, Jr. will be sorely missed by his family, New Weeping Mary Church and Fentress Community.

When tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand, that an angel came and called my name, and took me by the hand. The angel said my place was ready, in Heaven far above, and that I would have to leave behind all those I dearly love. But when I walked through Heaven’s Gates, I felt so much at home, for God looked down, smiled at me, and told me “Welcome Home.” So when tomorrow starts without me, don’t think we’re far apart, for every time you think of me, I’m right there in your heart.
