ndrea Denise Pegram Chavers was born on October 22, 1965 in Newport News, Virginia . She was the only child of the late Hattie Bercenia Pegram and Roy Graves and was affectionally known as “Cookie”. Cookie accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church. She graduated from Hampton High School (HHS)in 1983 and as she was a strong proponent of education, she began her scholastic career at Hampton Institute and secured an AS and a BA in Religious Studies from St. Leo University. Cookie was an active and loyal member of Zem Court No. 98 of Hampton, Virginia, and an active member of HHS C/O 1983 reunion committee. In 2016, she married the love of her life Percell “Chuck” Chavers III and was a devoted PawMom to Sparkle, her beloved West Highland Terrier.
Cookie was passionate about justice and became a Paralegal. She began her paralegal career with Attorney Wanda Allen and worked as a paralegal for Attorney Oscar Blayton for over 15 years. Cookie always had an entrepreneurial spirit and created a successful administrative consultant business named Virtual Consultants. She provided tax preparation, mobile notary, paralegal, estate, and administrative services throughout the Hampton Roads area. Cookie was enthusiastic about politics and social justice. She could be found distributing school supplies with her sisters of Zem Court No. 98, supporting the ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Restoration of Right’s clinic or supporting the campaigns of Congressman Bobby Scott. Cookie was a scholar of history and loved to travel. You would find her in Japan,
Cancun, Texas, or on a cruise with her beloved Husband, Chuck. Cookie loved to entertain, and she was a consummate hostess. She enjoyed fellowshipping with her beloved HHS C/O 1983 classmates. She was an excellent cook and loved to celebrate with family and friends over the Holidays. Cookie loved to sip, chat, and chew. She had a beautiful voice and a quick mind. She knew a little bit about everything and would not hesitate to get in a spirited debate over any subject. She was a friend to many. She knew folks from the crack house to the White House and treated everyone with reverence, dignity, and respect. Most of all, Cookie was love. Her smile was luminous and lit up a room. She never knew a stranger and anyone who met her; they thought that they had known her for years. She was beautiful,
brilliant, generous, loving, friendly, funny, helpful, inspiring, strong, welcoming, and forgiving. She was and will always be LOVE, personified. Cookie was a devoted wife, daughter, sister, friend, and aunt. She enjoyed spending time with her husband, her dog, family, HHS C/O 1983, her sisters in her court, and friends. Cookie was called to eternal rest on August 6, 2020. She will be missed by all who knew her. Cookie leaves to cherish her memory a loving husband, Percell “Chuck” Chavers III; mother in love, Alice Chavers( Napoleon Hayes); sister in loves Shelly Smith, Kelly Jackson, Sabrina Alexander and Alesia Chavers; father, Roy Graves; uncles, John “Butch” Pegram(Julie), Simon Pegram; niece, Casey Pegram & Oleta “Fanny” Christian; THE Pegram Cousins; HHS c/o 1983; “Cookie’s Crew”; Sparkle; and a host of beloved relatives, clients, classmates, and friends.

Perhaps you sent a lovely card, Or sat quietly in a chair. Perhaps you sent a funeral spray or lovely flowers, If so, we saw it there. Perhaps you spoke the kindest words, As any friend could say. Perhaps you were not there at all, Just thought of us that day. Whatever you did to console our hearts, We thank you so much whatever the part. Special thank you to Felicia Mattocks, Vickie Williams-Cullins, Joann Lewis-Nixon, The Pegram Family, and Hampton High School Class of 1983 for their thoughtfulness and support during this time of need. -The Chavers Family
