Belinda Louis Hawkins, born on February 1, 1952, in Newport News, VA, passed away on November 4, 2023, at the age of 71. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, friend, and a remarkable woman of unwavering faith. Belinda was the daughter of the late Walter Hawkins and Bertha Foster. Belinda’s early years were filled with determination and a strong sense of purpose. She received her education in Newport News and proudly graduated from Hunting High School. Her faith played a central role in her life, as she was baptized at 2nd Baptist Church in Newport News, VA, where she taught Sunday School. Later, she became an active and devoted member of Gethsemane Baptist Church in the same city. Belinda had a deep love for her pastor and her church, where she found solace and community. Throughout her life, Belinda faced numerous challenges with incredible strength and resilience. In the 1970s, she miraculously survived a gunshot wound to the head, a testament to her indomitable spirit. In later years, she conquered cancer, further proving her unwavering determination and her refusal to be defeated by adversity. Belinda’s life was a testament to her fighting spirit, and she served as an inspiration to all who knew her. Belinda was predeceased by her parents, Bertha and Walter Hawkins, as well as two brothers, Raymond Hawkins and Wallace Hawkins. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and perseverance. Belinda is survived by her loving son, Vincent Hawkins, and his wife Vernita, along with her cherished grandsons, Autavious Tobias and Avin Hawkins. She also leaves behind extended family members, including Lamont Hawkins, Wallace Hawkins, and Marcus Hawkins. Her circle of close friends was a source of joy and support throughout her life, including Lina Wilson, Anna Smith, Lorraine Hawkins, and Pattie Graves. Belinda’s impact extended beyond her immediate family, as she leaves behind a host of first cousins, extended family, and friends who will remember her warmth, courage, and unwavering faith.
