Cornelius W. Glover, Jr. was called home to receive his reward on Friday, March 17, 2023. Known to family and friends as Junnie Bug, Mr. G., CW, Pop and Pop-Pop, he was born April 23, 1932 in Newport News, VA to late the Cornelius W. Glover, Sr. and Martha Gray. He was raised in Smithfield, VA by his Big Mamma, while his dad continued to work in the Newport News Shipyard.

At an early age, he was baptized at Christian Home Baptist Church of Windsor, VA. Later in life, he became a member of Third Baptist Church of Hampton, VA; but also enjoyed worshiping at Gethsemane Baptist Church of Newport News, VA. Cornelius received his early education in the public school system of Newport News. He attended Booker T. Washington and Huntington High School. After graduating from Huntington High School in 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He served at Camp Gordon, GA and in Europe (Germany and France). After his enlistment in the U.S. Air Force, he returned to Newport News where he met and married his beloved and faithful wife of 64 years, “Marye Banks Glover”.

Cornelius was a devoted loving family man and from the union, three children were born: Eric, Rhonda and Katrina. From the birth of the three children came four grandchildren: Eric II, Henri’ (Lamech), Mitchell and Bethani. As the family tree continued to grow, now he has three great grandchildren: Henri II (Deuce), Mia, and Jasiah. Even though he loved and cherished his grandchildren, his great grandchildren became his passion and he enjoyed spoiling them even more. His good-natured personality made it even for all he encountered to find a friend.

Cornelius retired from the Newport News Shipyard after 42 years of service. After retirement, he worked part-time at the Hampton Veterinary Clinic that he loved dearly. In 1973, he joined The Dochiki Club and was a Lifetime member. His other passions included hunting, gardening, tinkering with everything (except electricity). He loved to travel, entertain and support his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers.

Left to cherish fond memories of him are: his wife Marye Glover, three children, Eric (Ann) of Newport News, VA, Rhonda (Carl) of Smithfield, VA and Katrina of Hampton, VA; four grandchildren, Eric II of Newport News, VA, Lamech (Brittany) of Newport News, VA, Mitchell (Jalissa) of Hampton, VA and Bethani of US Forces Italy; three great grandchildren, Henri’ II, Mia and Jasiah; one sister, Ida Glover of Newport News and a host of close family and friends.

Don’t Cry for Me

Don’t cry for me now I have died, for I’m still here I’m by your side, My body’s gone but my soul’s is here, please don’t shed another tear, I am still here I’m all around, only my body lies in the ground.

I am the snowfl ake that kisses your nose, I am the frost, that nips your toes. I am the sun ,bringing you light, I am the star, shining so bright. I am the rain, refreshing the earth, I am the laughter, I am the mirth. I am the bird, up in the sky, I am the cloud, that’s drift ing by. I am the thoughts, inside your head, While I’m still there, I can’t be dead. ~Author Unknown
