We little knew that day, God was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly, In death, we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you. You did not go alone. For part of us went with you, The day God called you home. You left us beautiful memories, Your love is still our guide. And although we cannot see you, You are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, And nothing seems the same, But as God calls us one by one, The chain will link again. Author: Ron Tranmer

Christopher Damel Pittman was called home to take his eternal rest on
Saturday, December 11, 2021. Christopher was born to James A. Pittman and the late Phyllis Bell-Pittman on September 30, 1969 at Whitaker Hospital in Newport News, VA. He was raised and educated in the Hampton City School System, graduating from Hampton High School in 1988. Chris was a loyal employee at Snow Jr. and King Construction. Donnie Byrd and Bird man as he was affectionately called was a man with a big heart. Bird Man enjoyed life and was happy. He was so compassionate and giving. He would give all that he had to make sure others around him were good. He loved his family and was often known to be the protector of those he held dear to his heart. This genuine soul enjoyed being with his family especially if it involved him being on the grill, dancing or playing cards with his sisters. Football was a favorite pastime always rooting for his team The Redskins, now the Washington Football team. Donnie Byrd was married to the love of his life, Marion Bridges-Pittman. He would do anything for his wife. He was a great provider, protector and partner. Through their marriage, he found a greater love in Christ Jesus. Giving his life to Christ was a decision he cherished and committed to whole heartedly. As a couple, they connected with Gethsemane Baptist Church in Newport News, VA. At Gethsemane he served with the ushering ministry and the media production team that set up equipment for worship. Though a little quiet, his heart of service and smile spoke volumes to his redemption story. Most recently, Chris was invited to serve as a leader at Gethsemane, which he excitedly accepted. Chris was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis Bell-Pittman; and brother, Shawn Pittman. Chris leaves fond memories with his wife, Marion “Precious” Bridges-Pittman, daughter, Christina Pittman; step-daughters, Queen Wooden, Special Bridges, and Diamond Laws; brothers, James Pittman, Kenneth Pittman, Padro Phillips, Matthew Jones and Gerald Taswell; sisters, Tina Pittman, Anita Pittman; grandchildren, Kazzi and Khaloah; nieces and nephews, Jovan, Antwaine, Sinita, Quiton, Isiah, Xavier, Kaliyah, Kareem, Adriyana and Malaia; best friend, Donnell Tillman;and a host of cousins, relatives, coworkers and friends.
