Deborah A. Faulkner-Brooks heard the call of Jesus to receive her heavenly reward on Monday, August 8, 2022. She was born on July 23, 1949 in Norfolk, VA to the late Julius C. and Hazel B. Faulkner. Deborah was educated in Norfolk Public Schools and was a Graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. She furthered her education at Virginia State University and ECPI. Deborah began her career in civil service at Ft. Dix in New Jersey. She ended her work life at Virginia State with the ROTC program and the Sentara Healthcare system. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at Trinity Baptist Church, Norfolk, VA. She was an active member at Gethsemane Baptist Church. Deborah was a true worshiper. She used her melodious voice to give praise unto God in the music Bubbeh,ministry.asshe was affectionately called was a sweet, kind and loving. She loved her children and adored all of her grandchildren. She was known to adopt you in the family if she feed you. Boy, did she know her way around the kitchen, she was famous for her waffles, rolls and gingerbread that warmed the hearts and filled the stomachs of so many. With every meal or at any given time you could find her with her favorite drink, a nice cold PEPSI. She loved playing pinochle and bid whist. An avid sports enthusiast, Bubbeh loved to watch tennis and her beloved Washington (Redskins) Commanders and the LA Lakers. She was a beautiful lady that had a way with words, she loved English often offering to help students with editing their dissertations. Her appearance was very important to her. You could find her on Saturday’s in Cornella’s chair getting her hair styled. Her style went well beyond her appearance. She was a lover of music. in addition to using her voice to sing, she also was a DJ and was with CJ and Company while living in New Jersey. Her love for music gave her joy and she shared it with everyone she came in contact with. Her rhythmic persona will play in our hearts
Deborahforever. was greeted in heaven by her parents; husband, John C. Brooks; brother, Willis Faulkner; and Pearl Bailey. Dancing on the memories Bubbeh left behind are cherished daughters, Morgan “MiMi” Rhodes, Melani Rhodes and Aime’e Rhodes; brother, Julius Faulkner, Jr.; grandchildren, Julian, Khayla, Caleb, Dashad, D’Aaron, Jaylen, Dionnielle (Zana), Zuri and Zion; Great-grandchildren, Dorian, Aydrian, Dionn, Nyko, Skylar, and Amoire; Extended family members, Sharion Brandon, Kaneisha Dortch, Kim Hill, Marcus Erwin, Riqia and Richelle Taylor; Special friends, Carmella Williams and Donna Warren; and a host of family members and friends.
