James L. Mizell was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, January 24, 2023. He was born in Galatia, NC to the late Theodore Roosevelt and Mary Elizabeth Mizell on May 22, 1941.
James was a 1960 graduate of Willis Hare High School. After completing his education James relocated to Virginia. He was a long time resident of Hampton, VA. He was employed at the Newport News Shipbuilding in Department O-38 in Material Support for 52 years. He also was employed as a custodian for Hampton City Schools and a commercial driver for Richards Supermarket.
James loved the Lord and was baptized at Zoar Missionary Baptist Church in Conway, NC. While in Newport News, he connected with Gethsemane Baptist Church where he was a faithful member. He enjoyed studying God’s word and serving as an usher until his health prevented him from serving.
James was a kind, gentle, friendly person that created long lasting friendships that he treasured. He was known for giving advice, having a funny story to tell, even though you may have heard them several times. He really enjoyed being around people and landscaping. He loved his family and the time he spent with them. He will forever be remembered for his jokes and his smile.
He is now rejoicing in heaven with his parents; wife, Margauritte Mizell and siblings, Othvelt Mizell, Ben Henry Mizell, Lillian Scott, Rose Moore.
Left to cherish his memories is son, James Wilson (Jessica) of Scranton, PA; grandchildren, Azariyah Wilson and Jeremiah Wilson both of Scranton, PA; siblings, Sylvia Wood of Hampton, VA, Shirley Torrey , and Selma Moore; beloved cousins, Charles Wright and Lois Edwards; sister-in-law, Clementine Thomas; close friend, Harvey Whitehurst and host of nieces, nephews and relatives.
