Remembering Anthony Jason Collins

We little knew that day, God was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly, In death, we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you. You did not go alone. For part of us went with you, The day God called you home. You left us beautiful memories, Your love is still our guide. And although we cannot see you, You are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, And nothing seems the same, But as God calls us one by one, The chain will link again. Author: Ron Tranmer

Anthony Jason Collins went to his heavenly home on February 25, 2021. He was born to William and Diane Collins on June 7, 1976, in Mt. Vernon, NY. By God’s providence, he was adopted into the Caines family when he was 6 months old. The Caines family would help raise him, nature him and love him throughout his life. Like his brother/cousins Anthony and Michael Griffith of Hampton, VA , he would be the first of the grandchildren to accept Jesus Christ as his personal Savior in the home of their Aunt Mary Johnson (Mt. Vernon, NY). He would attend Greater Centennial AME Zion Church in Mt. Vernon, NY with his beloved god-grandmother, Barbara Caines, until moving to Virginia and attending Gethsemane Baptist Church, Newport News, VA. Most of his education was spent in Mt. Vernon Public Schools and later Phoebus High School, Hampton, VA. He met and married Yolanda Jones Collins and had a son, Jay’Shaun Kaleek Collins. Jason then moved back to his home in New York. While in New York, Jason was employed by K. B. Lighting Co. He moved to Lawrenceville, GA in April 2020, where he was self-employed. Jason, as he was affectionately called, loved music and had notebooks full of rhymes and bars. Of course he always thought he would be the next BIG MC/DJ. He was also a pretty good artist, filling every free space of his notebooks with detailed sketches. Jason loved and was loved by many. Anyone who knew him, knew his greatest loves were his only son, Jay’Shaun and everything New York. Jason leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Yolanda Jones Collins; son, Jay’Shaun Collins; step-daughter, Jasmine Jones all of Hampton, VA; mother, Diane Collins of Houston, TX; adopted mother, Cheryl Byrd, Hampton, VA; sisters, Alicia Collins of Houston, TX, Sable Collins, Philadelphia, PA, Danielle Byrd Ramirez of Mt. Vernon, NY; brother, Dante’ Wheeler, Mt. Vernon, NY; beloved god-grandmother, Barbara Caines of Mt. Vernon; special friends, Alicia Knowles of the Bronx, NY, Kaleek Collins of Richmond, VA, Tracey Sills of Lawrenceville, GA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
