Today, we remember Savion Cortez Williams, a son, brother, grandson, uncle and unique soul who brought joy into our lives in his own special way.
Savion graduated from Menchville High School. Born January 9th, 2001 to the parents of Samuel L. Williams and Marvette L. Highsmith. Savion was raised in Newport News Virginia.
He found happiness in the simple pleasures, conquering video games, and trying to always be competitive with his big brother, Takari R. Highsmth. In doing this, he would find himself always needing his big brother's help.
Savion savored his Cheeto puffs and fruit snacks while sharing sour patch kids candy with his grandmother Eulene McKoy. He embraced the color black as his signature style. His enthusiasm for car shows was contagious.
Savion’s passion for life was evident in every moment. He looked up to his big brother with admiration finding inspiration and
guidance in that relationship. He enjoyed the rhythm of music, the thrill of dancing, and the laughter of comedies.
Savion loved his beloved pet, Miles. The time with his nephews was a testament to the love he had for family. His favorite football team was the New York Giants. As a child he played football at Doris Miller community center
But perhaps what stood out the most was his unwavering respect for elders and his readiness to help. Anyone could ask anything of him and he would do it without any hesitation. He was a dependable presence in our lives. As we say goodbye for now, let us remember the love, respect, and joy he brought into our lives. Let those qualities continue to inspire us and keep his spirit within us.
We will always love you to the end of time,

Our son lost his life to gun violence. Savion chose not to be the fall guy to a crime he did not commit.
Our son was victimized and threaten, which ultimately cost him his life.
Savion had a beautiful soul and a heart of gold.
Our son will never be able to show us who he was destined to become.
To all those parents that are raising a male child, hold them close and watch for signs of trouble.
As a community we must stand together and protect our children from senseless acts of crime.
If there is anyone with any information regarding the loss of Savion Cortez Williams and Mantia Poindexter, please contact the Newport News police department at 757-247-2500.
Sincerely,
TheWilliamsand HighsmithFamilyOur family would like to thank you for your condolences and sympathy in our time of mourning. We appreciate your generosity.
Our family would like to give a special thanks to Councilman John Eley, for staying with our son so he wouldn’t be alone, until our family arrived. Thank you to all our family and friends that kept us close. Thank you, Nicholson-Cummings Funeral Home for taking care of our beloved Savion; and to our Gethsemane Baptist Church family for the beautiful home going service of our son.
