Jordaan Memorial Library is committed to the community and its patrons. Th roughout the year, the library off ers story times and reading clubs for boys and girls, a summer reading program, craft ing, etc., as well as online services.

If your child lives in the 67550 zip code, you can register for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library at Jordaan Library. Children enrolled in this program receive a free book every month until their fi ft h birthday.

Th e time you spend reading with your child opens their mind to faraway places, exciting adventures, and sets them on the pathway to an interest in lifelong learning. Th is program is made possible through the generous sponsorship of Th e United Way of Central Kansas and community members.

History

Th e fi rst mention of a library in Larned is found in an advertisement from an 1879 newspaper, noting that a reading room was provided in the basement of Krouch’s store.

Th e original Cummins Memorial Library, also located where the library stands today, was opened on January 1, 1915. Th e three-story red brick and limestone structure housed the city offi ces, council room, and women’s clubroom for many years.

Planning for the new building, the present Jordaan Memorial Library, began in 1969, and construction started in January of 1973. Today, the structure has approximately 11,400 square feet, and houses approximately 39,000 volumes, with access to many more through the addition of interlibrary loan services to better serve the community.
