Observatory Park

Friday, August 13 • 9 p.m. – 1 a.m.

Suggested Donation: $5 per Family Appropriate for 10 years and older

Join the Gaithersburg Community Museum at Observatory Park for our first live skywatching program of the year. A screening of “Apollo 13” will keep us awake until the time we can expect to start seeing meteors (shooting stars) from the Perseids Meteor Shower. No special equipment necessary. Bring blankets or beach chairs for your comfort.

International Talk Like a Pirate Day

Sunday, September 19 • 11:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. The Community Museum welcomes all pirates to drop in and visit us in full costume. Practice using pirate phrases, make an eyepatch or a hook, and listen to a pirate story or two.

Discovery Day: Trains

Sunday, October 3 • 11:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. • Free

Immerse yourself in everything trains at the Community Museum. Local Locos Live Steamers will be here to share their large scale steam engines. See model trains, make a train craft, and if you stay long enough, you’ll likely see real trains as they pass by.

Skywatching: Space Telescope Science

Observatory Park

Saturday, October 16 • 6 – 9 p.m. • Free

Enjoy free talks, demonstrations, and other activities celebrating the moon and space telescope science. As it gets dark, we'll have our telescope out for viewing the night sky. This is an official NASA Webb Space Telescope Community Event, presented in partnership with the Rockville Science Center.

Trick or Treat at the Museum

Come in costume and receive a treat, plus have fun making a Halloween craft.

Zombie Ball

Bring your best monster MOVES to the first-ever Zombie Ball. THRILL to the tunes of the monster dance music as we SHAKE, rattle, and roll. Costumes encouraged. Food trucks, adult beverages & more. Must be 21+ with ID to purchase alcohol.

Storytime Station at the Community Museum

Tuesdays, September 28, October 26, November 23 11 – 11:40 a.m.

Enjoy a morning of books, songs, and movement outside in History Park (weather permitting). Each month we explore a different theme and participants will leave with related activity sheets to do at home. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
