G-Works - Workforce Development and Internship Program

(Requires Student Union Membership)

Grades: 10-12 as of September 1, 2023

Location: Activity Center, 506 South Frederick Ave

Hours: 2:45 pm - 4:30 pm

There is no cost associated with the G-works program, but Student Union membership is required. Register online or in person at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park (Resident $10, Nonresident $15). Once students have a membership, they can register for G-works and begin their first steps toward career readiness.

HOW DOES G-WORKS WORK?

Summer volunteers, Counselors-in-Training (CIT), assist the Counselors with the supervision of an assigned group of campers. Volunteers are also responsible for planning, organizing and actively participating in a variety of fun and safe activities including sports, games, special events, and arts and crafts.

Must be dependable, hard-working, positive, and energetic. Applicants must be at least 14 years old or entering 9th grade in the fall to apply for a volunteer position. Applicants who are chosen must complete a CIT Training Clinic before their first day of volunteering. Details will be emailed after volunteer placements are assigned.

Participants attend a Workforce Development class. Course content includes resume writing, interview skills, workplace etiquette, leadership skills & development, effective communication,and teamwork.

Upon successful completion of the class, students are eligible to apply for a G-works Internship with the City of Gaithersburg Summer Camps. Internships are 8-10 weeks including training (June 12 - August 11, 2023).

Applicants for the G-works Internship will be interviewed and selected by supervisors from the Summer Camp Team. Please note: there is no guarantee that a G-works applicant who completes the Workforce Development class will receive an internship offer.

G-works Interns receive a food and transportation stipend on a monthly basis. Interns must complete a W-9 with SSN or TIN to receive the stipend.
