CLASS OF 1970 EXCITED FOR GOLDEN CIRCLE REUNION THIS FALL

The Class of 1970 is celebrating its 50th reunion this year and already planning is well underway! Our ask for Reunion Committee volunteers was answered many times over. This year, the charge will be led by Lloyd Spruill, Joe Spruill, Emily Hedrick, David Feagins, Pat Keiger, Dan Hulburt and Carol Cox. Several members of the Class of 1970 have done a wonderful job staying in close contact throughout the years through beach trips, monthly dinners and constant phone calls, which will make for a very exciting reunion.

Dan says he is most eager to return to the place where he made all these lifelong relationships and to see friends he has not seen in far too long. While there are many reasons to anticipate the return to campus, one of the most notable is the induction into Guilford’s Golden Circle, where we will welcome the Class of 1970 into an elite group of Guilfordians who have celebrated 50 years as alumni.

“I think I’m most excited to interact with current students and see what life at Guilford is like now. I’m also really looking forward to visiting the spot where Joe proposed to me,” Lloyd said. Lloyd accepted Joe’s proposal right here on the Guilford College campus over 50 years ago, adding one more fond memory to the hefty pile gathered throughout their four-year stay.

Current campus life looks a lot different than it did in 1970. The committee is quick to remind us that being on a college campus from 1966 to 1970 meant being involved in protests and living through pivotal moments in our nation's history, such as the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Kent State shootings. Through the ups and downs, the Class of 1970 had each other and they will always have Guilford.
