Welcome How to use this Lifelong Learning Guide This guide is arranged in sections, by category. In many cases classes/workshops that apply to several categories are crosslisted in each relevant section. Each section/category corresponds with a color: Workforce Development courses (pgs. 8-11) include trainings intended to enhance an individual’s on-the-job skills, or provide skills for possible entry into a new profession. Health Care and Emergency Medical Services workshops (pgs. 12-13) are intended to meet very industry-specific needs of aspiring and current health care professionals. Many classes fulfill mandatory continuing educational requirements, while others provide pre-licensure or precertification preparation. Personal Enrichment workshops and classes (pgs. 14-18) include classes that people take for enjoyment and selfdevelopment which may fulfill professional needs, as well. Pioneer Valley Institute and Senior Symposium (pgs. 19-20) events are for those interested in celebrating the Connecticut River Valley and for area seniors to continue their education. Online Learning courses (pgs. 21-22) are delivered via the internet, and may require textbooks and other materials. Online courses are either asynchronous which can be completed any time or synchronous which requires you “attend” scheduled online sessions “live” at a set time. Blended Classes (pg. 23) are offered in collaboration with GCC academic departments and combine non-credit students in the same classroom along with credit students.

Welcome—or Welcome Back— to Lifelong Learning at GCC The mission of the Office of Workforce Development and Community Education at GCC is to offer our community the widest possible range of compelling and useful classes and workshops with some of the area’s most talented instructors. We believe that our two-part mission of Personal Enrichment and Workforce Development, along with the sheer number of people (3,000) we serve each year, make Workforce Development and Community Education at GCC an integral part of this community. Here’s to your lifelong learning.
