Community Education–Welcome How to use this Lifelong Learning Guide This guide is arranged in sections, by category. In many cases classes/workshops that apply to several categories are crosslisted in each relevant section. Each section/category corresponds with a color: Workforce Development, pgs. 7-11. This section is made up of trainings designed primarily for working people who are looking to enhance their on-the-job skills, gain access to a new field or learn a new aspect of their current field. Health Care, pgs. 12-15. This section is made up of classes and workshops designed for the very industry-specific needs of aspiring and current health care professionals. Many classes are approved for mandatory continuing educational requirements, while others provide pre-licensure or precertification preparation for those looking to enter a health care field. Personal Enrichment, pgs. 16-20. This section includes workshops and classes in areas such as Art, Dance, Computers and others that people take primarily for enjoyment and self-development. In many cases these classes serve other purposes as well, but they are primarily for selfenrichment. Blended Classes, pg. 21. These classes and workshops are offered in collaboration with GCC academic departments and combine credit-free students from the community in the same classroom learning experience with GCC forcredit students. Online Learning, pgs. 22-23. Courses in this section are all delivered via the internet, although some include textbooks and other materials. Most are asynchronous, that is you can do the work at any time. A few are synchronous, which means that you have to “attend” your online session “live” at a set time. All require an internet connection.

Instructor: Debbe Dugan Navigate and format the basic spreadsheet. Create workbooks that integrate data from multiple spreadsheets and other Excel documents and integrate this information into Word documents. Use functions, create macros for repetitive operations, set-up worksheets, and display data as charts. Explore Excel as a database and use it to integrate information exported from the internet or other software programs such as Filemaker, QuickBooks and some mobile phones.

The Massachusetts Workforce Training Fund Program (WTFP) awards grants to Massachusetts employers who pay into the MA state unemployment insurance fund. Financed by you to help businesses enhance their current and newly hired workers’ skills and introduce them to new technologies, production methods, and customer satisfaction tools. Up to $250,000 is available through WTFP grants • Businesses are eligible if they have paid into the WTFP by paying MA state unemployment insurance • Express Grants, General Program Grants and HITG (Hiring Incentive Training Grant) are available - Express Grants — Now for fewer than 100 employees can be submitted at any time and have a 5-day decision turn-around - General Program — Reduced waiting period (now only 1 year to apply for additional trainings) - Hiring Incentive Training Grant – for new hires

Create documents, format them, and add graphics within Word. Create spreadsheets, combine them into workbooks in Excel, and learn to merge data into Word documents. Develop slide shows within PowerPoint complete with sound and animation. Use Outlook to manage your email, create calendars and to-do lists, and invite others to meetings.

Instructor: Jeff Rutherford With the rise of smartphones, tablets, and social media, more and more consumers are starting their purchasing decisions with online searches. This training will teach local businesses and entrepreneurs how to find and engage their customers and potential customers online. Learn how to effectively use social media (Facebook, Twitter, Google+) and web technologies to promote your business and connect with your customers. You don't need to be an expert in technology to take this course and learn more about finding and connecting with customers digitally.

Manufacturing Trainings at GCC! Are you out of high school or graduating soon? Out of work? (Or in a job that pays too little?) Wish you’d taken a vocational-technical pathway? IT’S NOT TOO LATE! GCC has partnered with the Franklin Hampshire Regional Employment Board and Career Centers, Franklin County Technical School, and a consortium of area manufacturing companies to develop and implement foundational and advanced manufacturing training programs. Due to the aging workforce and high demand, there are more precision manufacturing jobs than qualified workers to fill them. We’re looking for motivated adults, particularly but not exclusively older youth, with mechanical aptitude to participate in our trainings. Trainings are tuition-free to eligible candidates who are accepted.

The next 12-week, 220-hour, hands-on intensive training for CNC Operators will begin in Fall and will prepare unemployed/underemployed adults for entry-level CNC machining. Foundational Manufacturing trainings (4 weeks, 80 hours) will prepare workers for entry level manufacturing jobs. An advanced course for those already familiar with photovoltaic technology and looking to develop and demonstrate their expertise in siting, design, analysis of customer needs, and performance analysis of photovoltaic systems. Topics include costs, savings, government incentives, and financing options for both ownership and Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) models. Students prepare proposals based on specific customer locations and needs. The course closely aligns with the NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) task analysis for their industry certification in Photovoltaic Technical Sales, and students should seek such certification after completion of the course and additional NABCEP requirements.
