At GCC, we take pride in the quality of our community education programs and the many ways we serve our students, families and the businesses in our community. We invite you to take a class or a workshop online or on campus. Learning is not just something you do for one class, learning is a way of living your life. I think you will find what you are looking for and the experience you are hoping for. Sincerely,

Greenfield Community College

Welcome How to use this Lifelong Learning Guide This guide is arranged in sections, by category. In many cases classes/workshops that apply to several categories are crosslisted in each relevant section. Each section/category corresponds with a color: Workforce Development, pgs. 7-12. This section is made up of trainings designed primarily for working people who are looking to enhance their on-the-job skills, gain access to a new field or learn a new aspect of their current field. Health Care, pgs. 13-16. This section is made up of classes and workshops designed for the very industry-specific needs of aspiring and current health care professionals. Many classes are approved for mandatory continuing educational requirements, while others provide pre-licensure or precertification preparation for those looking to enter a health care field. Personal Enrichment, pgs. 17-20. This section includes workshops and classes in areas such as Art, Dance, Computers and others that people take primarily for enjoyment and self-development. In many cases these classes serve other purposes as well, but they are primarily for selfenrichment. Blended Classes, pg. 21. These classes and workshops are offered in collaboration with GCC academic departments and combine credit-free students from the community in the same classroom learning experience with GCC forcredit students. Online Learning, pgs. 22-23. Courses in this section are all delivered via the internet, although some include textbooks and other materials. Most are asynchronous, that is you can do the work at any time. A few are synchronous, which means that you have to “attend” your online session “live” at a set time. All require an internet connection.

Register for credit–free workshops. We offer 4 easy ways–pick one! • Register and pay (secure) at www.gcc.mass.edu/shopcreditfree • Call (413) 775-1661 during normal business hours (please leave a message after hours or email chastney@gcc.mass.edu). • Visit us at the Downtown Center, 270 Main Street: Mon–Thurs. 9 a.m–5 p.m., Fri. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (check, credit-card, money orders only please). • Fill out the registration form on page 24 of this guide and mail with your check to the address indicated on that form.

Welcome—or Welcome Back— to Community Education at GCC This is the last time I will be communicating with you through the Lifelong Learning Guide, but you will continue to see me in the community as I pursue other longawaited opportunities. In April of 2015, I will step away from the position of Dean for Community Education at GCC, a position I’ve held in one form or another since the fall of 1999. In that time we’ve more than doubled the number of titles we offer and the number of students we serve, from just under 2000 students in 1998 to nearly 4000 last year. Likewise the breadth and scope of what we offer has increased to incorporate a much broader range of workforce development titles. Therefore, I’m very happy that effective April 1, Alyce Stiles, currently Director of Workforce Development at GCC, will become the Interim Dean for Workforce Development and Community Education. Under her leadership, the comprehensive mission of the office will remain the same—to offer our community the widest possible range of compelling, high-quality and useful workshops and trainings with some of the area’s most talented instructors. Please check out the many community education and workforce development options in this new edition of the Guide, and thank you for your continued support. Here’s to your lifelong learning. Bob Barba, Dean for Community Education

Please note: There are no day or evening workshops on Mon. May 25, Memorial Day, or Friday, July 3, Independence Day (observed).
