sixth & Main
senior capstone project
year : senior location : smithfield, utah
Sixth and Main was a conceptual LEED neighborhood redevelopment in Smithfield, Utah taken on by the USU senior class of 2013. The purpose of the project was to design a green city center where surrounding residents could enjoy various activities such as shopping, dining, exercise, and entertainment. Through collaboration we were able to come up with the overall design of the city center including the architectue and landscape. All interiors were specifically chosen and designed on an individual basis.

senior capstone project
year : senior location : smithfield, utah Hotel Native is a luxurious boutique hotel fixed on the corner of sixth and main. Inspiration for the hotel was drawn from the natural landscape of the dry desert of the surrounding area. This backdrop was seamlessly incorporated with a cozy modern feel creating a unique constrast in materials and texture. Salvaged and recycled materials were used throughout the hotel from the barren timber backdrop in the bedrooms to the recycled wood stamped concrete planters in the entry. Native offers extended stay suits for guests planning on longer visits as well as the daily traveler. The hotel boasts top of the line services such as the signature restaurant and bar “The Golden Arrow, a state of the art gym, juice bar, and salon. The outdoor terraced patios are equipped with gas burning fire pits and sleek outdoor furniture.

Hunk-a-bread
senior capstone project
year : senior location : smithfield, utah
Hunk - A - Bread is a quaint little bread and pasty shop located on the main strip of Smithfield. HAB bakes its bread every morning and uses only the freshest ingredients in their sandwiches and juices. By rebranding their company logo and store interiors, I’ve brought a fresh clean look that rivals their delicious products. Blue and orange were used in the lounge area along with a white backdrop to keep things light and energized. Custom art work on the mantle as well as bold throw pillows on the sofa are the small details that bring the whole space together. It is a comfortable place where one can sit down, read a book, and enjoy a hunk of fresh baked bread.

The block Restaurant
senior capstone project
year : senior location : smithfield, utah The Block is a high-end restaurant located in the former Morgan Pea Factory at the North end of Smithfield. The four story abandoned building was the perfect location for the restaurant. Ceiling heights on each floor average anywhere from 20-30 feet, lending itself the opportunity to do something grand. The building (because of its size) was divided up into two different uses. The first floor is a butcher shop/cafe that serves local cuts of meat to its customers. The second floor up through the roof-top are designated for The Block. The rooftop is equipped with multiple fireplaces where customers can dine in private or with large groups. The atmopshere lends itself to drinks and appetizers considering there is a full service bar located under the historic roof-top water tower. The second and third floors are of significant size since the rooftop is closed for a good portion of the year because of Utahs cold climate in the winter months. Keeping with the raw feel of the original building,a masculine color pallette was chosen for its interiors. Materials such as charred pine, white washed oak, gold flecked granite, and the extravagant luna wall covering create contrast as well as compliment the original structure.

The Rugged
Inspiration Images
The rugged outfitters senior capstone project year : senior location : smithfield, utah The Rugged Outfitters is a clothing and accessories lifestyle retail outlet that provides customers with a unique in-store atmosphere catered specifically to the individual. Customization for fit, color, and fabric is common among Rugged clients. To best represent the Rugged brand, inspiration for the interior design was of the flagship store was drawn from its very own clothing line as well as the outdoors. Custom wood inlay flooring patterns were derived from a knit dress and a subtle 3D tree graphic display in the fitting area was derived from the shape of pinetrees. To literally bring in a greater connection with mother nature, grass has been transplanted along the major walkways around the flagship. The green touch is unexpected and draws customers into the space. (photo credit: travis j photography)

mesa vista residence
sophomore project
year : sophomore location : lake powell, utah Mesa Vista is a 1,000 sqaure foot residence located on the cliffs over Lake Powell. The three story residence is divided by having the public spaces on the top two floors, and the private space on the bottom floor. The reisdence wraps around the bend of the cliff side providing over 180 degrees of scenery for its inhabitants. Hollow-steel-structure beams we’re driven up to 60 feet into the cliffside to support this one-of-a-kind cantilevered home. The linear lines of the home reflect the natural lines of the sandstone cliff it resides on creating a seamless balance between the two.

Custom Plate Design
sULLIVAN DINING ROOM junior visiting designer project year : junior location : west hollywood, california Todd Nickey and Amy Kehoe of Nickey Kehoe in West Hollywood took part of our visiting designer series. They were working with a client who owned a craftsman style home, and was currently renovating. Our challenge was to design a new dining room for Mr. Sullivan in the style of Nickey Kehoe. We were also to create custom furniture pieces for the space. We were required to preserve the architectural details and wood that currently existed. I was inspired by plywood and all the of the forms that it could take on, and my furniture collection started there. I created my vintage map rug to ground the seating group. The chairs are a two-tone plywood wood chair; each side is stained differently than the other. With the ergonomic curves in the chair, although a hard surface, the client will feel comfortable sitting in this chair. The table is the paper table, filled entirely with book pages stacked together and covered with a glass top. The light fixture brings in an industrial feel with the bent

Accelerate physical Therapy
sophmore project
year : sophmore location : park city, utah Accelerate Physical Therapy was a project assigned to experiment with 3D Studio Max. The challenge was to design a physical therapy clinic in a high-traffic area that would be used to its full advantage. I chose the ski resort at Park City, Utah for the location of my building, catering its services specifally to injured skiers/snowboarders in the winter and bikers/hikers in the summer. Natural materials were used in the building to reflect it’s surroundings as well as accents of bold colors to keep patients positive and happy.

Life by design
side project
year : senior location : logan, utah
Life by Design was a business model proposed by a entrepreneur student to give interior design students the opportunity to create furniture pieces that could be manufactured and sold locally. I was able to design four pieces to submit to the project for which I created detail drawings (all four designs) and scaled models for two of the pieces.
