Happy Easter! From everyone at the NCP
THE NCP
Hello everyone and a very warm welcome to our latest edition of the college press. I hope everyone is doing well and looking forward to the Easter break. As always, we would to begin by thanking all the amazing students who contributed to this latest edition of the NCP. It is a pleasure to read such terrific work and see the students at the school flourish in what they love to do. Without your support and contributions we couldn't be here today. It has been a privilege to share such outstanding talent and skills with the school community. It is very important to us to help students showcase their passions through their work and ensure they have a comfortable environment to share their ideas. This Easter issue has been as joy to put together and to read through the high-quality entries. We really hope you enjoy reading it and may feel motivated in the future to share some ideas of your own. A very happy Easter to all our readers and a big thanks to our teachers as always for their continuous support, guidance, and hard work. We really hope everyone enjoys this well-deserved break! From your NCP Editorial Team - Aoibhín Dunleavy, Sophia Deasy and Sophie Byrne 🙂
TY SKI TRIP- Oscár Murphy As I begin to settle back into the routine of my everyday life, and as the familiarity finds itself creeping up on me, often I will reminisce on the TY Ski trip to Folgaria. It’s a very disconcerting feeling, now that it’s over. I had been told by those in 5th and 6th year that this trip was the highlight of the year, and that so many memories are made, and they were right. I was given lots of warning about its fleeting nature, however I haven’t gotten over the fact it’s over. I’d like to talk in more detail about it
I woke up at about 4am, hopped in the car, trying to wake myself up and remember the things I had potentially forgotten. Toothbrush. That gives me a sense of relief, as the feeling of doubt leaves me now, I can always get another toothbrush. Entered the bus, naturally the last one to join, and I find my seat among my year group. Some people enjoy a coffee or tea in the morning to wake them up, however I believe that being on a bus with half a year of 16 year old lads is the ultimate alarm clock.
We made our way to the airport and began the process of bag check in, customs and Burger King. As we had our breakfast, the excitement began to fester, and how I know that is because people who would be late for every class they attend were arriving at the gate 20 minutes early. We all hopped on the plane, and took our seats for take-off. We were on our way A flight, a baggage claim, and a pretty tedious bus trip (Including a McDonald’s pit stop), and we were there, the girls having arrived before us, waving to us from the balconies. We settled into our rooms and before we knew it, we were whisked off to get skis, boots and helmets. I remember feeling embarrassed having to explain to the Italian man in the shop that my head was in fact bigger than the XL size on my helmet, him not understanding a word. Oh well, that’s the first embarrassment down.
As we began to settle into the weeks routine, like meal times, ski groups and shop runs, I felt a weird feeling of community that I haven’t ever felt with my year. The trip was a great opportunity to talk to people as they are, individually and personally. While we all attempt to be social and put our best foot forward while in the company of other people, no one can maintain that standard for a week, so everyone softens up a bit.
it’s at this point where everyone begins to get along and connect, and I am truly grateful that I got to witness and be a part of this phenomenon. I have essentially doubled my inner circle of friends since the ski trip, which I am delighted about. It really is a transformative time for the year group as a whole. Continued on the next page
I THINK A LOT OF THE REASON WHY I CAN’T WRAP MY HEAD AROUND HOW BRIEF THE TRIP WAS COMES FROM THE FACT THAT WE WERE NEVER BORED. WE HAD MOVIE NIGHTS, QUIZ NIGHTS, SPORTS, SWIMMING, AND EVEN A PIZZA NIGHT, WHICH I HAVE TO SAY, WAS THE MAJORITY’S ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE.
That plus skiing every day for 5 hours, and we were absolutely exhausted. And being completely honest, as infamous as the hotel foods reputation is, it was actually a lot better than I’ve been told. No one had any complaints, mind you, that might be because of our exhaustion. The teachers and supervisors were good craic as well, and while the respect was still there, they really felt like peers at times in the sense that we could laugh and joke with them. There was a mutual respect coming from teachers and students towards each other, which I now realise is crucial in building trust between both parties. This was really nice to see, and we managed this new responsibility that had been entrusted with us. I’ve heard that the year group begins to mature in TY, but I never believed it until this trip. When the week neared its end and all was said and done, we headed on the bus ready to leave for home, with the only casualty being my phone which I dropped of a chair lift, like a dope.

Of course, I would later eat these words as our flight was redirected to Shannon airport. The pilot tried to land in Dublin twice, and finally changed to here because of the ‘heavy winds’. I think everyone knew what was the truth though, as when we finally made it back to Dublin airport, the wind was almost perfectly still. Mr Brew, Mr Corbett and Mr Falvey went out of their way to make a last stand and find my phone, thanks again to them for that. But to be perfectly honest, everyone was so engrossed in the social aspect of the year at the end of the week, that I didn’t need it to have fun. as we presented our passports and made our way to baggage claim, a strange wash of nostalgia and impermanence fell on us. This trip is now over. I said goodbye and got in my sisters car to go home. All in all, the ski trip was phenomenal, and I couldn’t recommend it more. If you ask anyone in the year who went and they’ll tell you this too. It really is a trip that we will remember years after we leave the school, and I am grateful to have gone.

I STAND FOR PEACE I STAND WITH UKRAINE
A huge thank you to everyone who supported and donated to the Ukraine appeal. The TY students were busy sorting and loading all the items that were then dropped to Deering Transport, Nurney earlier in March. They were then shipped to Ukraine so we can help in a small way with the humanitarian effort. Warmest wishes, The Religion Department and the CSPE Department

Animal farm book review Animal farm is a book written by George Orwell in 1943, based around the Russian Revolution. This novel tells the story of a cruel farmer who one day forgets to feed his animals. The animals then plot a rebellion against him. They rebellion succeeds and they take over the farm. Two pigs Napoleon and snowball - prove their intelligence and importance and become the leaders. The farm is then managed well, the animals are looked after, and everyone is treated equally. But when snowball is forced to run away from the farm and the Napoleon is left in charge everything takes an unexpected twist. In conclusion, I think animal farm is very good because the language is easy to understand, and the ending is very unexpected and interesting. I would recommend this book to everyone.

You are not alone Have you ever felt like nobody was there? Have you ever felt forgotten in the middle of nowhere? Have you ever felt like you could disappear? Like you could fall, and no one would hear? Well, let that lonely feeling wash away Maybe there's a reason to believe you'll be okay 'Cause when you don't feel strong enough to stand You can reach, reach out your hand And oh, someone will coming running And I know, they'll take you home Even when the dark comes crashing through When you need a friend to carry you And when you're broken on the ground You will be found So let the sun come streaming in 'Cause you'll reach up and you'll rise again Lift your head and look around You will be found You will be found You will be found You will be found You will be found From ‘Dear Evan Hansen’
