Hi everyone and a very warm welcome to the latest edition of the NCP!

We are so excited to share the wonderful articles, interviews and photographs that our generous and enthusiastic contributors have shared with us. This edition is truly a celebration of the rich culture of our school and reflects the passion, talent and creativity of our staff and student body. Our amazing first year interviews and photographic views of the school are peppered with references to sport and other extra-curricular activities. We spotlight a recent visit from poet Maeve O’Sullivan and contemplate prefect picks from our library together with an enthralling book review. The amazingly successful three-night run of the musical “Shrek” is captured in some wonderful photos of cast and crew which are sure to bring you back to the toe tapping tunes of the night. Our publication also offers the opportunity to discover more about our current Captains so if you want to know what motivates them or what pizza topping they would choose to be then keep reading!

Our NCP continues to reflect the fact that our school is far more than a place of academic excellence and our publication not only celebrates the additional sporting, artistic and musical elements to school life but also captures the enduring bond, allegiance and sense of community that is instilled in pupils. The recent visit of past pupils from 2017 – 2021 who shared tips and tricks on study and work life balance with current sixth years symbolises much more that information sharing but also the connection that these pupils have with the school and its students. With that in mind, all that remains is to thank all our amazing contributors for their submissions and all of the staff and students who have contributed to this and other elements of our wonderful school life. Enjoy!

A big congrats to everyone who made shrek happen!!

It was an absolutely fabulous production and so well put together. The main cast, Conor Majury as Shrek, Anna Leavy as Fiona, Sean Kelly as Donkey, Evan O’Connor as Lord Farquaad, Leah Howard as Dragon, Nadia Abdalla as Fairy Godmother and Oscáir Murphy as Captain of the Guard, were phenomenal and so well cast. They constantly had the audience in fits of laughter with a smile on everyone’s face.

Every single night the show was on, every seat in the audience was filled - the most people to attend the shows in a long time! A huge congrats to Mr. Doyle for the amazing script and jokes, Ms. Moran for coordinating the awesome costumes and production, Ms. O’Brien for keeping everyone in key and the outstanding piano skills, Niamh Conlon for turning an entire cast of (quoting Anna Leavy) “two left feet” into a cast of “two right feet”, all the full cast, dancers and everyone else backstage - the show wouldn’t have been the same without all their hard work. I cannot wait to see what happens next year to follow such an amazing production however I’m sure it will be awesome! by Isabel connelly The NCP

They Both Die at the End is centered around when Mateo Torrez and Rufus Emeterio are alerted by Death-Cast, a company that predicts the day of your death, that they are going to die within the next twenty-four hours.

The author depicts this dystopian version of New York City in both a simultaneously tantalizing and intriguing way. Silvera effectively captures the traumatizing and intense emotion that both boys face as they come together to live a lifetime in a single day.

These boys have gone through life-changing events that completely changed their lives. They are alone in their worlds with no parents and family to turn to or rely on. When they meet each other, they become best friends and discover deep hidden secrets and feelings they had been hiding, even from themselves.

You are absorbed into a world so intense and heartbreaking that you cannot help but root for these characters with every page you turn. The use of first-person narration from both the protagonists broadens our understanding of both of their backgrounds and inner thoughts and feelings, making you feel a part of the novel itself. With heart-melting empathy and rib-cracking humour, Silvera takes you on a journey that you will never be able to forget. I highly recommend this book with five and half stars. It is well worth the read and I hope you enjoy it.

First Year Interviews

This October, our sixth years were able to chat to some of our past pupils about managing themselves in 6th year, how best to approach study and homework and heard hints and tips from those who recently went through the Leaving Cert experience.

Below is a picture of the past pupils who generously gave up their time, some even missing Fresher’s Week social events, to come back and chat to our next graduating class.
