Bonneville Speedweeks…it’s go time! After a 2 year forced hiatus, Bonneville Speedweeks 2016 is getting ready to fire up. Running starts on Friday August 12th. We say “forced hiatus” because it was not the racers choice to not run. Mother nature got in the way with too much rain and the condition of the salt was not good, due to policies not being followed as agreed to by mining companies.
The Salt Flats is a fragile place. Even though it’s been there for millions of years, careless management of this resource has caused many problems. Salt had to be brought in to build up the entrance to the salt. If this had not been done this year, no one would have been able to access the salt to do any racing. The Salt has been determined to be “OK” to run on, but it is not perfect by any means. It is thin compared to years past.
Keep that right pedal....FLOORED!
Bonneville puts a spell on men and women once they have gone there to watch, or help crew a car. What else can you call it, when hot rodders in big numbers come to a place to race, in the blazing sun, for no prize money, no trophy, spending lots of money to hopefully make a full pass and if lucky, set a new record in your class. They say when you look down that black line that helps guide you down course, you get mesmerized and drawn in deeper to “salt fever”.
Like many of you, we are looking forward to hearing how the running goes this year. At least 3 teams are trying for 500mph or more….WOW! We pray for safe racing for all and look forward to all the action. “Roll the push truck…”

Turning a long forgotten Concept Car into Reality Chip Foose will be debuting his latest custom creation, the 1939 Cadillac Madam X Coupe later this summer.
Being built for automotive dealership magnate Wes Rydell and his wife Vivian, the Madam X was originally designed over 80 years ago as a concept vehicle for Cadillac but it was never built.
Starting with a Cadillac 60 Special Sedan, it has been shortened, lowered, and fabricated into a dramatic one-ofa-kind coupe with a removable hardtop. After eight decades, it has been reimagined by Foose with his own signature style, and he aims to bring this “Cadillac that never was”
into the real world with the utmost craftsmanship and quality. Madam X, which takes its name from the term famous former General Motors design chief Harley Earl used to describe special one-off vehicle projects for unique clients, takes its inspiration from a 1935 concept sketch by GM designer Art Ross for a 1937 Cadillac 60 Special.
The Madam X Coupe represents a new direction for Foose design, with subtle, refined lines inspired by Ross’ original concept drawings blended with Foose’s uncompromising eye for clean design. Madam X Cadillac is turning out to be one of the most stylish cars I’ve ever built,” Foose said. “It’s a great combination of modern technology and old-school coachbuilding tradition. I can’t wait to reveal it.” General Motors, automotive home of Harley Earl, was a pioneer in the early days of car design. But for as many wild concept cars and even production cars as the company's studio created, there were still many that never got off the paper.
Chip Foose is working to change the fate of one of those designs.
According to Foose Design, Chip Foose's latest project is based on a sketch from 1935. Car dealer Wes Rydell and his wife Vivian commissioned a custom Cadillac coupe that was sketched out by GM designer Art Ross. It would take an existing Cadillac sedan, shorten it, lower it and give it a removable hardtop. The drawing is as far as the project got.
Now Chip Foose is working on realizing the design in real life using a 1939 Cadillac Series 60 Sedan. He plans to follow the initial design brief, but with his own unique touches. He has also named the project "Madam X" in honor of what Harley Earl would call client projects. It is scheduled to be finished and ready for unveiling at the end of the summer.
Foose is a well-known designer who has won some of America's most prestigious custom car awards such as the Ridler Award and designed vehicles for the TV show Overhaulin'. It is time to clean out your attics, garages, basements and sheds, and find new homes for unwanted items. This is and has been a fun event for all. All participants do so at their own risk.
