Sept 1, 2016
Gearheads say hello to September (already!!!) and the fall show and cruise season. As far as we are concerned, this is when the weather is the best all over and there are more shows and cruises going on than the rest of the year. Choices are good, especially when the weather is great too. Being that we are kicking off September, that means that the Labor Day holiday is right here on top of us. We want to wish everyone a very nice Labor Day Holiday. For everyone still working hard each day and doing the 40 hour grind, and sometimes more, thank you for what you do. You contribute to making our country great each day and for that we salute you, the working men and women of America. We hope everyone gets the 3 days off, but we are realistic and know that doesn’t happen. To all of our military warriors, to all the Police, Fire and 911 personal, Dr’s and hospital staffs who can’t get off, thank you for being “on the job” to aid and assist us today and everyday.
Last week I talked about changes coming to the Gearhead Gazzette and the change is here this week. We have put the Gearhead Gazzette HOT NEWS up on the shelf…kinda’ sorta’. We have returned to using the Gearhead Gazzette name, but on a weekly basis instead of monthly or semi-monthly basis. The Gearhead Gazzette is where we started and where we belong. The Gearhead Gazzette HOT NEWS will be utilized for what it was originally intended…late breaking gearhead news about shows, events or other gearhead activities that we think you would want to know about right away. We will push out emails as needed under the HOT NEWS banner and use the HOT NEWS section on the website to keep you up to date. Look for an enhanced weekly publication from us with more features and gearhead fun too. Hang on for the ride gearheads…it’s only getting better!
Keep that right pedal....FLOORED!

Pleasanton, CA – Reshaped, regal and extremely powerful, the metallic gold 1937 Ford of Rio Linda, California’s Dan Wathor captured Goodguys 2016 Flowmaster America’s Most Beautiful Street Rod during last weekend’s Goodguys 30th West Coast Nationals. Turns out for Mr. Wathor, the third time was indeed the charm. After top 5 finalist placings for Goodguys Street Rod d'Elegance (Del Mar, CA) and Street Rod of the Year (Columbus, OH) Wathor's sparkling ’37 was a decade in the making.
Built by Kenny’s Rod Shop in Boise, Idaho, Wathor’s coupe is a study in painstaking details, refined fit and finish and manly horsepower. Its heartbeat is a 351c.i. EFI Ford Cleveland V8 punched out to 427c.i, features Arias Ford hemi cylinder
heads, intake and thumps like an angry gorilla with dyno readings north of 750hp. While the car is all class, it has a nasty dark side.
Like any top flight street rod, the stance is perfect thanks to a scratch built chromoly tube chassis fit with modified Heidt’s IFS and IRS cushioned with Ridetech air shocks. When aired out, it is simply poetry in motion. The solid wheels offer a retro look but are anything but. Measuring 8x18” and 10x20” they were machined from solid chunks of aluminum with custom made “Deluxe 37” hubcaps. The exterior lines feature perfect 1/8” uniform gaps coated in that sparkling custom mix PPG Envirobase gold metallic.
A closer look reveals custom fabricated inner fender wells (front and back) as well as custom running boards. The hood has been sloped while under the hood lies a custom curved firewall. All exterior glass is curved. Boise’s Interior Revolutions stitched the vintage toffee leather interior and mohair headliner while the original ’37 dash is fitted with Classic Instruments gauges, Juliano’s ’39 Banjo steering wheel, Flaming River steering column and Lokar shifter.
This one is the total package. Its class and style (both inside and out) put it in the upper echelon street rods of the past decade. After trips to Detroit for the Ridler competition, where it placed in the Great 8, and finalist bids in Del Mar and Columbus, it can now lay claim to being America’s Most Beautiful Street Rod for 2016.

SEPT 2016: SEPT 9-10: WEST SALEM WI: MISSISSIPPI MAYHEM 2016: One part car show, Featuring pre-'65 hot rods and kustoms. One part motorcycle show,Pre-'75 traditional-styled chopper, bobber and café racers. One helluva lot of fun! Bands, beer, pin ups, vendors, swap, racing and more! A traditional hot rod show is different from other car shows in a number of ways. A traditional show celebrates all things vintage, not just the cars. It attempts to recreate the time from which they came. There, you will not only experience the cars people drove, but also the clothes they wore, the music they listened to and items they would have purchased for their homes. That you can, too! To maintain that feeling of stepping back in time, certain restrictions must be placed on vehicles in the immediate show area. There are technology based restrictions as well. For example, billet wheels and white lettered tires did not exist on street cars during this time. That said, Mississippi Mayhem has nothing against cars manufactured post 1964. Quite the opposite. We love all cars! Anything with an engine really. For more info and to sign up to attend go to www.mississippimayhem.com SEPT 9-10: MORRIS IL: JALOPYFEST: Traditional Hot Rod & Custom Car Show.
