“ Ya Gotta know where to Go….The FUN Starts Here….”

We recently published in the magazine, as well as on our Facebook page, the 2018 event schedules for both GOODGUYS and NSRA.

Again….that's ok as you have to make it work within your budget. Grumbling about the entry fee is common and has been going on since the 1st time gearheads were charged to get in an event. The grumbling even spilled over onto some of the local show entry fee’s in different area’s of the USA.

To say the feedback was varied would be a bit of an understatement. Many gearheads were pleased to see the schedules so they could plan their 2018 car show fun. Surprising the amount of you that go to multiple events in a year, based on comments we got.

I share those concerns, as I worry about events being killed because of lack of participation, due to costs. Let’s face it, 2 people in a car at a 3 day event means 4 nights in a hotel, 4 days of buying food too. Gas is the cheapest thing and it’s not cheap. If you bring your kids...more $$ to be spent

There were also varying comments about which organization did a better job of running events. All good feed back and none of it wrong. The feedback is gearheads opinions based on their own experiences at events from each organizations. Everybody has an opinion, including us.

I have watched this issue grow and see what more and more gearheads are doing to have fun and not spend so much money with their cool cars. They are going to the FREE CRUISE-IN’s that take place.

The one thing that was loud and clear from a majority of you, was the concern over the cost of entry to the events. I can tell that some of you are not going to be going to events from either organization in 2018.

More n this next week...

“As the highest-performing Corvette ever, the ZR1’s design supports its capability in every way,” said Kirk Bennion, Exterior Design manager. “The new wings, for example, help generate more downforce without adding drag, enhancing road holding and top speed.”

Chevrolet has introduced the 2019 Corvette ZR1, a supercar that pushes Corvette’s performance legacy with the highest power, greatest track performance and most advanced technology in its production history, according to the company. The Corvette ZR1’s exclusive LT5 supercharged engine, which is rated at an SAEcertified 755 horsepower and 715 lb-ft of torque, is establishing a new benchmark in performance. Further, the ZR1 elevates Corvette’s track capability with two wind tunnelhoned aerodynamics packages, including an available High Wing that provides an estimated 950 pounds of downforce. The ZR1’s LT5 6.2L V-8 engine advances Corvette’s supercharging legacy, which began with the 2009 sixth-generation ZR1 and continued with the 2015 seventh-generation Z06. The LT5 delivers the highest output ever for a Chevrolet production vehicle, thanks in part to a new, more-efficient intercooled supercharger system that offers 52 percent more displacement than the Z06’s LT4 supercharger, according to the company. GM’s first dual-fuelinjection system, which employs primary direct injection and supplemental port injection, helps the LT5 achieve its record output.

The ZR1 will offer two aero packages: A standard rear Low Wing, which delivers the highest top speed and helps generate up to 70 percent more downforce than the Z06’s base aero package, and an available twoway-adjustable High Wing that offers maximum downforce on the track for the quickest lap times—about 60 percent more downforce than the Z06 with the available Z07 Performance Package. All models also feature a Chevrolet-first, downforce-enhancing front underwing. The adjustable High Wing is part of the new ZTK Performance Package, which also includes a front splitter with carbon-fiber end caps, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 summeronly tires, and specific chassis and Magnetic Ride Control tuning for greater cornering grip. Both of the ZR1’s wings are tied into the chassis, like the Corvette Racing C7.R race car, for strength and stability.

Seven-speed manual and eight-speed paddle-shift automatic transmissions are available with the LT5. It’s the first time an automatic transmission has been offered in a ZR1.

The Corvette ZR1 also debuted a Sebring Orange design package. Centered on its Sebring Orange Tintcoat exterior color, the package also includes orange brake calipers, orange rocker and splitter accent stripes, orange seat belts, orange interior stitching and unique, bronze aluminum interior trim.

The 2019 Corvette ZR1’s aggressive appearance is driven by function, contributing to its distinction as the fastest production Corvette to date, according to Chevy. An all-new front fascia is designed to channel air for propulsion-system and drivetrain cooling, with four new radiators bringing the heatexchanger total to 13. A special carbon-fiber halo hood is open in the middle to clear the LT5 engine’s supercharger/intercooler assembly. Additional features, including aero packages with stanchion-mounted wings, help push the ZR1 harder onto the track for more confident handling and faster lap times. Top speed of the ZR1 is over 210 mph.

The 2019 Corvette ZR1 goes on sale next spring.

The West Coast Nationals Photo’s by Michael Corazzelli / Story by Jimmy B

Some people call it “The Crown Jewel” of the GOODGUYS yearly schedule. Hot Rodders that are regulars and even those that have been a few times call it “PTown” Call it what you want...The West Coast Nationals is a great event by a lot of different measures. 2017 saw the 31st edition this west coast favorite event. Hot rodders from all over California and many other states head to Pleasanton California each August , to be part of the hot rod fun.

One aspect of this event is the locale that it is held at. The Alameda County Fairgrounds are absolutely wonderful Lot of shade, well taken care of grounds both on the blacktop and the grass. The fairgrounds allows for a great layout for all the different area’s of the event. From the Deuce Show to the always popular swap meet, finding your favorite event within the event is easy to do. Some of the best fun begins before the event even opens the gates for all those pre72 hot rods, customs, muscle cars and more. HOT ROD WEEK runs from Monday thru Thursday and starts each morning at the host hotel. Each morning maps are handed out to those wanting to join in the fun. The destinations differ each day, but trust us when we say, you will see some of the coolest cars places around the Bay area 16

if you join in the fun. Hot Rod shops, aftermarket manufacturers, museum and more all while taking in the sunny Northern California landscape while cruising the highways and back roads to get to the many different stops. The great thing is, no two years in a row are the same. On Friday at about 3pm, the Danville Dukes hold their famous Shadetree Social over in one part of the fairgrounds. It’s not to be missed and many of the hot rodders at “P-Town” make it a point to go and have some fun here. All weekend long the Bay Area Engine Modelers Club is set up inside one of the buildings, showing off the many different scale engines. They don’t just show them off, they fire them up and run them. Hemi’s , BBC’s, Flatheads and more cranking up and entertaining everyone there. The Spin Dizzy Tether cars running on the track are so cool to see. Some of the antique and original ones are just plain bitchin’! Saturday is a big day. The “America’s Most Beautiful Street Rod competition heats up with so many cool cars trying to win the big award.

Let’s not forget the Woodies! The “Termite Delights” are out in force at the West Coast Nationals every year. Seeing all the different makes and models of one of hot rodders favorite cars, whether they own one or not is an absolute blast. We could go on and on about this event, but you get the picture. Nothing but hot rod fun for gearheads...and they call it “P-Town” 17
