“ Ya Gotta know where to Go….The FUN Starts Here….”

“Veterans wrote a blank check to our country” Let me start out with a heartfelt thank you to all of you who served or are serving our great country, in one of the various branches of the military. Because of you, we remain a free nation.

to college and start their own hot rod type business. They started what we enjoy today. Veterans Day is the time we recognize ALL Veterans who have served in all the conflicts our country has experienced. We recognize the Veterans who are still alive as well as those that have passed away. Most importantly we remember and recognize those people who paid the ultimate price, by giving their life while fighting for our country. These are the true HERO’s of our country.

Hot rodding owes a lot to our veterans, especially the ones who served and fought in WWII. Those veterans not only protected our way of life, but the worlds also. As newscaster Tom Brokaw says, “they are the greatest generation” . They also got many idea’s from the equipment they worked on and parts they used and took care of, and adapted them to their hot rods. Military surplus became a way of building hot rods to run on the dry lakes, at Bonneville and on the drag strip too. Think “bomber seats”...from military airplanes, and may other parts too.

All of our Veterans wrote a blank check to our country, and put their lives on the line. For that we say thanks...every day and in many ways. I am proud to say that I served our country in the US NAVY…..

Ford Returns to the NHRA in 2018 with New Mustang Funny Car After the NHRA 2014 season ended, Ford Motor Company pulled its support leaving those teams in the Ford Mustangs on the outside looking in for a ride in 2015. Of significance, was John Force Racing. JFR was forced to switch from the Ford Mustang to the Chevrolet Camaro when Ford pulled out but the BOWTIE brand, Chevrolet stepped in to support JFR fully for 2015.

some wins in 2018 for both him and Ford, it is will absolutely be one tough battle with the Chevrolet Camaro drivers from JFR and the Dodge Chargers drivers from DSR. Dodge and Chevy have been the cars and teams to beat in the funny car ranks, so Ford and Tasca Racing will have to step up their game….BIG Time. Let the battle of the Detroit 3 begin!

Since Ford abandoned the NHRA there have been a few racers who chose to run the Ford Mustangs, without any factory support. on the NHRA circuit., Over in the other lane, the racers in a Dodge, Chevrolet or Toyota, have factory support and more factory $$$, Face it, when you have $$$ you are more likely to be successful. JFR’s Camaros and DSRs Dodge Chargers have dominated the Ford (and Toyota) teams, but the Ford is looking to change that in 2018. Announced at this years SEMA Show last week in Las Vegas, Ford Performance introduced the all new Ford Mustang funny car, which is modeled after the 2018 Shelby GT350….kind of. Bob Tasca III will race and campaign this car in the 2018 NHRA season, and Ford’s commitment and sponsorship will greatly help Tasca Racing to compete with the Chevy, Dodge and Toyota teams. Tasca Racing worked closely with Ford Performance to help design the 2018 Ford Mustang funny car body, which reportedly will offer superior aerodynamics when compared to the Mustang body currently in use by the non factory teams. Ford may also have some involvement in the engine development program, but as on now, there has been no talk about that part of this new partnership. While this deal with Ford will help improve Bob Tasca III’s chances of bringing home 6

Congrats to our friend Spivey Williams on his induction into the Kentucky Motorsports Hall of Fame on November 4th. Much Deserved for such a great guy who has helped so many racers out over the years. Spivey and EVENT RADIO LIVE have been long time supporters of our Magazine and we thank him for that!

Important News from

For the first time in 20 years, the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association is raising the year eligibility for participating vehicles at its events. Beginning in 2018, Goodguys will open event gates to 1987-and-earlier show cars for its national events. The expansion comes after several years of planning. “We carefully considered all aspects of a year bump,” said Goodguys President and CEO Marc Meadors. “We discussed it with prominent builders, manufacturers, and our members. We asked our internet and social media audience for their input and we ran a column in the Gazette which garnered over a thousand letters. The resulting flood of feedback and collective input from all of our research suggested nearly 70-percent of our audience was in favor of the bump.” The 1987 cutoff date was selected because it includes some of the most popular body styles of next-generation vehicles collected and modified by enthusiasts. This includes Fox-body Mustangs, third-generation Camaros and Trans Ams, G-body GM cars such as Monte Carlos and Buick Grand Nationals, and squarebody Chevy and GMC pickups. You can also expect to see vans, ’Vettes and other distinctive rides from the ’70s and ’80s. “Our events will prominently feature the familiar fabric of the world’s finest pre-war hot rods, customs, classics, muscle cars and trick trucks,” Meadors said. “We will also see fresh, friendly faces – 20- and 30-year-olds, longing for a chance to show off their hot cars, welcomed with a nod and a smile. Our industry manufacturers currently offer a wide range of products for next-gen cars and many of our industry’s top hot rod shops have next-gen cars currently under construction.” One exception to the new year cutoff will be the West Coast Nationals in Pleasanton, California. This event will retain its current 1972 cutoff. However, the West Coast Nationals will incorporate an All American Sunday in 2018, welcoming all years of American-made cars on its final day. The event will also add an AutoCross competition. The next generation of vehicles will be eligible for all standard Goodguys event awards, including Builder’s Choice selections. They will also be eligible for the following Goodguys Top 12 awards: • Street Machine of the Year • Muscle Machine of the Year • Muscle Car of the Year • Truck of the Year Late (now ’67-’87) • Autocrosser of the Year This latest year expansion follows a similar process Goodguys used to determine year cutoffs in the past. Goodguys first moved the year cutoff at events from 1959 to 1962, and then from 1962 to 1964. We began incorporating 1972-and-earlier cars 20 years ago, in 1998. 7

Hot Rodding has come a LONG WAY from these days and this kind of publicity! We saw this in the “INTER-WEB and grabbed it to share. THE HOT ROD PROBLEM...Mechanized Suicide...WOW! Fact is hot rodders did just this and earned the reputation that came with it. The Great thing is, a lot of dedicated car folks worked hard to turn this around to what we enjoy today as a great reputation. Thank you to all.
