“ Ya Gotta know where to Go….The FUN Starts Here….”

Do you have enough?? AHHHHHHHH YESSSS!

On both occasions, I was insured at a good level and everything was fixed and taken care of smoothly.

Warmer weather has arrived all over the USA. We know that the Florida, California & Southwest states have nice weather virtually year round, but the rest of us for the most part, have to wait until Spring Time to start enjoying these cool cars & trucks we drive.

Think about it… for the most part, hot rod or muscle car, nice driving condition, could you re-build it from scratch for $20K or $25K?? If you can do absolutely everything yourself, you might be able to be ok for parts. Isn’t your labor worth anything though...YES IT IS!

Being everyone is starting to crack open the garage doors and roll those machines out, the question you have to ask yourself is...do I have enough protection? For the few of you thinking it, get your minds out of the gutter...LOL!

Average shop labor runs from $65-$90 an hours depending on the shop. $20K worth of Insurance gets you 307 hours of labor. Can you or do you know anyone who could re-build your whole car in 300 hours?? I don’t.

Protection means Vehicle Insurance.

One of our advertisers and a company based here in Tennessee, ARTIZAN Insurance A to Z has a powerful ad running inside this week issue (Pg. 12)and has for the past few weeks. It should make you think about your pride and joy.

The difference in cost between $20k and say $35k worth of insurance is not that much. Think about it. Breakout your policy and see what it covers. Make sure its enough. If your not sure, call your agent.

Based on other business experiences and dealing with the repair end of hot rodding, we as gearheads tend to go CHEAP on insurance for our toys.

If your in Tennessee, we would suggest you call ARTIZAN Insurance for a quote or with your questions. They know the business and they support you. Can’t ask for much more.

BAD MOVE!! Talking to other specialty shop owners, they see the same thing. We never plan on anything happening, but yet it sometimes does. I have experienced 2 incidents with 2 different specialty vehicles.

Now go drive that hot rod!

Road Rumblings….

The Historic Vehicle Association (HVA) www.historicvehicle.org announced that three iconic cars representing unique American car culture will be displayed “center stage” on the National Mall in Washington D.C. from April 12 to May 4, 2017. April 12 – 19 Gypsy Rose 1964 Chevrolet Impala “lowrider”

Gypsy Rose is a beautifully painted 1964 Chevrolet Impala designed to go “low and slow” when it cruised East LA in the 1970s. It was known as one of the most extravagantly painted lowriders of the period and was featured in the opening of the 1970s sitcom “Chico and the Man.” Gypsy Rose was featured on the cover of Lowrider Magazine in 1980.

April 20 – 26 McGee Roadster 1932 Ford V8 “hot rod” April 27 – May 4 Hirohata Merc 1951 Mercury Coupe “radical custom” The vehicles will be exhibited in the HVA glass case on the walkway between the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum and National Gallery of Art. The exhibition is free to the public. The vehicles are privately owned and are being commemorated and recorded as part of the HVA National Historic Vehicle Register in partnership with U.S. Dept. of the Interior, Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) to be permanently archived in the U.S. Library of Congress.

The HVA’s objective is to share America’s automotive heritage with the American people, “said Mark Gessler, President of the Historic Vehicle Association. “The three cars being recognized on the National Mall represent a uniquely American story of the talented builders that modified production cars for speed and style. These three examples represent true national treasures of the early days of the hot rod, custom and lowrider movements. It is their first time in Washington, DC.”

The McGee Roadster is a hot rod based on a 1932 Ford V8 Roadster. It was built by Bob McGee, a soldier who returned from the war and attended and played football for the University of Southern California. McGee raced the car on the California dry lake beds and used the car to promote hot rod safety. The iconic car was featured on the cover of Hot Rod Magazine in 1948. 6

The Hirohata Merc is a 1951 Mercury Coupe that was purchased by Bob Hirohata and extensively customized by master craftsmen Sam and George Barris at their shop in Lynwood, California in 1952. It was striped by Von Dutch and featured modified design elements from Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Ford, and Lincoln. Under Hirohata’s ownership it was driven cross country from LA to Indianapolis and Detroit and back. The car collected over 150 trophies during the first several years it was shown. The HVA expect hot rods, custom cars and lowriders to descend on the nation’s capital during the exhibition. This three-week 2017 exhibition expands upon the two-week 2016 HVA Cars at the Capital exhibition that featured President Taft’s 1909 White Steam Car and President Reagan’s 1962 Willys ‘Jeep’ CJ-6. The 2017 Cars at the Capital exhibition is underwritten in part through the generous support from Shell (including their Pennzoil and Quaker State brands), Hagerty, American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) and the Ten Enthusiast Network (including Automobile, Hot Rod and Lowrider magazines). 7
