“ Ya Gotta know where to Go….The FUN Starts Here….” “wooden boats just scream cool!” You’ve looked at the front cover of this weeks issue and you are probably wondering just what the heck we are doing this issue. A boat on the cover of a car type magazine? What is going on?

This is what hot rodding is all about in my opinion...having fun and lots of it. Whether its cars, trucks, boats or event motorcycles, all of them are part of the hot rodding –gearhead world. If we see something that we think is interesting to you, looks like big fun and has a cool factor, we are going to bring it to you to enjoy. If you think we are not covering or bringing you something you would like to see, tell us about it. Email us, FACEBOOK us, or INSTAGRAM us. If we do not know about it, we cant include it.

The answer is an easy one. The name on the magazine says Gearhead Gazzette. Gearhead encompasses a whole lot of things, at least it does for us. Even if you look at it as hot rodding, that covers a whole lot of things also, These “Pre-War”(WWII) wooden boats just scream cool! Under the hood of the engine compartment most of them have a flathead Ford engine inside. That’s a whole lot of hot rod right there with a flathead.

Back to these boats. These wooden boats are just cool. The workmanship and craftsmanship is outstanding. The nostalgia factor of coolness is off the chart with these boats. I have yet to hear anyone say they didn't think they were cool.

They’re loving restored and shown at events, no different that an old car or truck is.

Let’s not forget that many an early hot rodder used parts off these boats on their hot rods, Gauge clusters, steering wheels different brackets and such have found their way onto more than 1 hot rod. The hot rodders that used the parts are quick to show you those boat parts and they add a level of cool to the car!

Whether it rolls, floats or even flys (think P-51 Mustangs and air races), all are welcome here at the Gearhead Gazzette. Go have some gearhead fun!

Jimmy B.

“the fun starts here”….

Chevrolet reveals 2018 Camaro ZL1 NASCAR Cup Series Racer Chevrolet has unveiled the 2018 Camaro ZL1 race car that the manufacturer will field in the 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. The Camaro ZL1 will replace the current SS model that has been used since NASCAR Cup cars moved to the Gen6 design specification in 2013.

tested ZL1 badge, and we’re just as excited for our drivers, teams, fans and customers.” The car was unveiled at Chevrolet’s corporate headquarters in Detroit, with reigning NASCAR Cup series champion Jimmie Johnson on hand at the reveal alongside Chevrolet’s executive vice president of GM Global Product Development, Reuss. Various teams that run with Chevrolet in the Cup series were also in attendance, including representatives from Hendrick Motorsports, Chip Ganassi Racing, Richard Childress Racing, JTG Daugherty Racing, Germain Racing, and Leavine Family Racing. The Camaro ZL1 NASCAR Cup car bears a significant resemblance to its production counterpart – something that some fans believe has been missing in some of the current cars in the Cup series. Chevrolet tried to preserve the image of the Camaro Zl1 whilst designing the Cup series car, but not at the cost of aerodynamic efficiency.

It was announced at the start of the year that Chevrolet would no longer field the SS in the NASCAR Cup Series, a move in line with the discontinuation of the Chevrolet SS road car; which suffered from poor sales throughout its run. From its launch in October 2013 to July this year, only 11,388 were sold. By comparison, Ford has sold nearly one million production versions of their Fusion that is used in the Cup series since January 2014.

The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Cup car will make its race debut during the 2018 Daytona Speedweeks in February. However, the car will most definitely make its first ontrack appearances in various test sessions later this year.

The Camaro, however, has long been a favourite of consumers across the world. There’s also a long history of the Camaro in motorsports. The Camaro SS is also the car that Chevrolet field in the NASCAR XFINITY Series. “Chevrolet, Camaro and ZL1 are all synonymous with winning, both on and off the track,” said Mark Reuss. “We are thrilled to run Camaro in the NASCAR Cup Series next year, with the time-honored and track6

Powertrain Department. This nod to the future contrasts with the traditional materials and techniques applied for the Prototype 9's manufacture, including panels hand-beaten by a team of Takumi, Nissan Motor's master artisans.

INFINITI Reveals Prototype 9

Nissan Motor Corp. and premium brand INFINITI together have unveiled a sleek, openwheeled electric retro roadster prototype at the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. The car, called Prototype 9, is a celebration of Nissan Motor and INFINITI's ingenuity, artistry and craftsmanship, according to the companies. It also represents a reimagining of a 1940s race car with timehonored production techniques employed to realize its retro design.

As word of the project reached across Nissan Motor Corp., a team of powertrain engineers brought their own proposal: to equip the car with a next-generation EV powertrain. The Prototype 9 is the first INFINITI to be powered by a new EV powertrain: a 30 kWh high-voltage battery paired with a prototype electric motor, one not yet seen on a production vehicle.

The prototype was developed after a discussion among executives, according to Alfonso Albaisa, senior vice president of global design at INFINITI.

The motor produces 148 horse and 236 lb-ft of torque, and it drives the rear wheels via single-speed transmission.

“What if INFINITI had created a race car in the 1940s? If one were to imagine an openwheeled INFINITI racer on the famous circuits of the era, such as Japan's Tamagawa Speedway, what would that look like?” Albaisa wondered. “The sketches were stunning and the idea so compelling that we had to produce a prototype. As other departments became aware of this, they volunteered their time to create a working vehicle."

Prototype 9 has a top speed of 105.6 mph, and sprints from 0-to-62 mph in 5.5 seconds, with a maximum EV range of 20 minutes under heavy track use.

The car is powered by a prototype electric motor and battery from Nissan’s Advanced 7

AUG 2017: AUG 26: FRANKLIN TN: Great Americana BBQ Festival / Cruise-In: Hosted by the Franklin NOON Rotary Club. We would like to extend an invitation to your club to show off their rides. Participants would pay no entry fee and get two event tickets per vehicle (you must be in your antique or classic car). The Rotary Club will provide cash and trophies to the top three clubs with the most participation.

The BBQ Festival event is from 10 AM to 8 PM and we would ask that cars arrive between 9 and 11 to get in place to hopefully avoid anticipated later-in-the-morning traffic. Show vehicles will have a designated entrance and parking, with parking restricted to show vehicles only. All day attendance is not required, but would be appreciated, as we understand folks have other commitments. We will have a 20x20 tent for car exhibitors to get out of the sun. Bring a lawn chair. Walker Chevrolet is sponsoring the show and within the designated parking area a section will be set aside for Corvettes “ONLY”, for those wanting to park in the

Corvette Corral. Car show parking will be in an area close to the activities so that food, beverage, bathroom facilities, and music acts can easily be accessed. The BBQ cooking competition concludes around noon with awards at about 2:30. This year’s event will include craft beer vendors, allowing those who desire to sample some local beverages. Returning this year is the Tennessee Distillers, which sponsored the Bourbon Tent for additional adult beverages. NOTE: The good thing is that space is not a problem at Harlinsdale, so we are not limited on participation. It is not required to pre-register, but it would help to get an anticipated car count from each club a couple of weeks in advance, so we can plan accordingly. Please respond to our club Secretary Randy Shemin at randyshemin@gmail.com . This is a great opportunity to represent and promote our hobby, our clubs and support a great charitable event, which gives back to the local community. We hope you will elect to participate. Thank you for your time and consideration, and please let me know of any questions or if I can help in any way. My phone number and direct e-mail address is Phone: 615-642-5822, paulcollins@sullivanengineering.com Franklin Noon Rotary Club website: http:// www.franklinnoonrotary.com/ 38
